STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK

FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

Today’s theme is perseverance—Moses keeping his hands upraised throughout the battle, Paul urging Timo-thy to stay with the task of preaching and teaching, and the widow appealing to the corrupt judge. To be faithful stewards of God’s gifts, we, too, must persevere in the roles to which we are called.

Liturgical Ministers Mass Intentions

It's easy to say "Pray always" (Luke 18:1) but is it real-ly practical? If we broaden our concept of prayer it is. Service to the family can be a form of prayer. Think doing dishes, fixing stuff around the house, taking care of sometimes crabby kids, providing an income for necessities... Bring prayerful mindfulness to one such act today.

MARRIAGE MOMENT

The Altar Bread and Wine offered at this week’s Masses are in memory of William Vereb, Sr. from his family.

ALTAR BREAD AND WINE

The widow in today’s gospel is praised for her PERSE-VERANCE. In our homes perseverance is a critical ingredient to resolving differences in marriage, and teaching lessons and skills to children. Perseverance is always an act of faith and trust in the goodness of the other person.

HAPPY ARE THEY Happy are they who grieve not for what they have not, but give thanks for what they do have. —Anonymous

One of the best ways to increase vocations is through prayers, and the greatest prayer we have is the holy sacrifice of the Mass. Please call the Parish Office if you want to be on the 31 Club and experience the satisfaction that comes from helping to fulfill a great need in the Church.

???QUESTION OF THE WEEK???

ADULT: Whose needs might you be failing to listen to right now? CHILD: How often do you put off chores until you are forced to do them? Who is hurt by such a decision?

DEPENDING ON GOD “Getting by with a little help from our friends” is not an idea that began with the Beatles. Certainly the idea of “getting by with a little help from God” goes back at least to the first reading today from Exodus. How we get that help, however, is the key to this weekend’s scriptures. No matter how inadequate Moses felt to the task God had given him, he persevered—even though he needed help from the people around him. The Israelites especially depended on God for freedom. The woman in the Gospel, desperate and destitute, had no one to depend on, but still she would not give up. She could not afford to bribe the unscrupulous judge, but she pestered him into weariness until finally he met her demands. We sometimes need to turn to others to help us through difficult times; but if we always turn to God, we won’t be disappointed, for our help, the psalm assures us, is from the Lord. Copyright © J. S. 2017 MASS BOOK Mass requests for 2017 will be accepted beginning MONDAY, OCTOBER 24th, the Parish Office opens at 8am. With the Pastoral Plan there will most likely be a change in the number of weekend Masses and the times at Blessed Sacrament. There will be one Saturday

Vigil Mass and two Sunday morning Masses and the Sunday evening mass with Father Mike. Once our neighboring parishes are re-configured in February, we will work together with them to explore the times that will best work for our schedules and our needs at Blessed Sacrament so that if a parishioner can not, on occasion, attend Mass here, they can have other options at nearby parishes. Thus, with the possibility of only four Masses total, there will only be three intentions accepted per weekend, the obligatory intention for the People of the Parish will be for the fourth Mass. When you reserve Masses, everyone will be able to have 4 intentions per person, one on the weekend and three during the week. The Sunday evening Mass will be an option for an intention, we will still pray for Vocations but will not use Vocations as the intention for the evening Mass. We can not specify a particular time for your Mass it will either be for the Saturday evening Mass, one of the two morning Sunday Masses or the Sunday evening Mass. Because we are cutting back on the number of Masses you can reserve in 2017 we will offer a few additional options: Altar Bread and Wine $10, Sanctuary Candle $10, Candle at the Blessed Mother Altar $10, Candle at the St. Joseph Altar $10.

CHILD PROTECTION AND CREATING SAFE ENVIRONMENTS Code of Conduct: The Diocese of Erie is committed to protecting the children and youth who are entrusted to its care and to ensuring that those in ministry with our young people are in right relation-ship with the children/youth receiving services. To share in the ministry of Christ is a great privilege as well as a tremendous responsibility. The privilege is the joy of sharing in the mission of Jesus Himself. The Responsibility is acting in a way that conforms to the attitude and actions of Christ. In this spirit, the diocese has issued a ministerial Code of Conduct, which can be accessed at: http://www.eriercd.org/pdf/codeofconduct.pdf. The code is included in the diocesan Policy for the Protection of Children, which also includes mandates for creating safe environments. To read the policy, go to http://www.eriercd.org/pdf/protectionpolicy.pdf For more information, contact Mrs. Karen Streett, at the diocesan offices at 814-824-1195.

CHILDREN’S STEWARDSHIP CORNER During the past week some of our children noted on their Church envelopes some ways they shared their time and talents. We thank them for being true stewards of God’s Kingdom through sharing and service by using their Church envelopes. “I helped our friends, clean my room, helped mom feed bunnies, helped mom with clothes.” Please encourage your child(ren) to write on their enve-lopes ways in which they shared their time and talent during the week. It is uplifting to read what they share...we can all learn something from them!

TO THE PARENTS OF OUR YOUNG CHILDREN

May we suggest:

Relax, God put the wiggle in children, don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house. All are welcome! Sit toward the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what is going on at the altar.

They tire of seeing the backs of others’ heads. Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and actions of

the priest, altar servers, choir , etc. Sing the hymns, pray and voice the responses.

Children learn liturgical behavior by copying you. If you have to leave Mass with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back. As Jesus, said, “Let the

children come to me.” Remember that the way we welcome children in Church directly affects the way

they respond to the Church, to God, and to one another. Let them know that they are at home

in this house of worship.

TO THE MEMBERS OF OUR PRISH The presence of children is a gift to the Church and

they are a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome our children and give a smile of

encouragement to their parents.
