My dear parishioners, I have two big announcements to make. First I would like to welcome Lauren Gentry, our newly hired parish youth minis-ter to our parish family. As many of you know, part of the money raised in the Generations of Faith campaign was to help each parish be able to hire a youth minister. I applied for the grant last winter and we were awarded the grant to help pay the salary of a youth minister. Since May, I have been interviewing different candidates, taking my time to make sure I hired the right person for our parish. I read through over twenty different resumes, met with several individuals and with the help of prayer and discernment, determined that Lauren was the best candidate. She started this past week and will be introducing herself at all the Masses today. She will be in charge of the youth group, training of the youth as leaders, assisting with the confirmation program and much more. Please pray for her as she begins this important minis-try with us. Secondly, you have read during the summer of the trip to Poland for World Youth Day. I really enjoyed my time in Poland and felt the desire to return and to bring others back with me. I am happy to announce that we will have a parish pilgrimage to Poland and the Czech Republic, July 2 -11. I am calling the pilgrimage “Divine Mercy: In the footsteps of St. John Paul II, St. Faustina and St. Maximilian Kolbe.” I invite all of you to think and pray about joining me for this extraordinary time of travel and prayer. We will see the birthplace of St. John Paul II and celebrate Mass in the church where he was baptized. We will see where St. Fausti-na entered the convent and go to the Divine Mercy Shrine and pray at her tomb. We will visit the concentration camp Auschwitz where over two million died and where St. Max-millian Kolbe and St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross were martyred. We will go to Czestochowa and pray at the image of the Black Madonna. We will end the pilgrimage in Pra-gue where will have Mass at the Shrine of the Infant Jesus. I am very excited to have you join me on this pilgrimage. Flyers are available in the rec-tory, the back of the church and on the parish website. Reg-istration deadline is January 5, 2017, but I am telling you now so that people may make vaca-tion plans. Many people have already expressed interest, so be one of the first to sign up. Mis queridos feligreses, Tengo dos anuncios grandes que hacer. Primero, quiero darle la bienvenida a Lauren Gentry, nuestra empleada re-ciente como ministro de jóvenes a nuestra familia parro-quial. Como muchos sabrán, parte del dinero recaudado de la campaña Generaciones de Fe fue para ayudar a cada pa-rroquia emplear a un ministro de jóvenes. Aplique para la beca el invierno pasado y nos premiaron con la beca para ayudar a pagar el salario de un ministro de jóvenes. Desde mayo, he estado entrevistando diferentes candidatos, to-mando mi tiempo para asegurar que contratara la persona adecuada para nuestra parroquia. Leí más de veinte diferen-tes currículos, conocí varios individuos y con la ayuda de oración y discernir, determiné que Lauren era la mejor can-didata. Ella comenzó la semana pasada y se presentará en todas las Misas de hoy. FRIENDLY REMINDERS

Religious Education St. Mary's Religious Education program offers 8 years of faith formation for your child, beginning in the 1st grade of their public school education. If your child entered the 1st grade last week now is the time to register her/him for Holy Communion classes. If your child has not yet been confirmed and entered 7th grade or higher now is the time to enroll her/him for Confirmation prepara-tion. Please bring a copy of your child's Baptism certificate and any other sacramental certificates. Registration fees are as follows: 1 child $85.00 2 children $100.00 3 or more children $110.00 Classes are on Sundays from 1:15 to 2:30 pm for levels 1-6 Wednesdays, we have 2 sessions as follows: Session I for levels 1-6 from 3:15 to 4:30pm and levels 7 & 8 from 3:15 to 4:45pm* Session II levels 1-6 from 5:00 to 6:15pm and levels 7 & 8 from 5:00 to 6:30pm* *Note a 15 minute longer session for levels 7 & 8 (Confirmation classes)

50TH REUNION FOR THE CLASS OF 1966 The alumni from St. Mary’s class of 1966 are planning a 50th Reunion on October 29, 2016. Any ‘66 grad who would like to attend is asked to contact the reunion committee at: stm66@aol.com for further infor-mation. We also ask your help by passing the message on to any class

if ‘66 graduate that you may know.

There will be two special collections coming up to assist victims of natural disasters:

Sunday, September 25 for the victims of the flooding in Louisiana and

Sunday, October 9 for the victims of the earthquake in Italy.

Do you have confirmation? Do you have the other sacraments? Do you want to

become Catholic? We will begin classes in September for adults who wish to receive the sacraments. All classes are free and will be held on Wednesday evenings. Call the rectory at 718-672-4848 to register or

Join the St. Mary’s Children’s Choir! What better way to serve the church, and our Lord Jesus Christ, than through the power of music? Register your child to join our music ministry for FREE. The St. Mary’s Children’s Choir will begin practice on September 21st at 5pm. Each practice will take place in the new music room on Wednesdays at 5pm, after the 3:15 session of Religious Education Classes, and we will be singing for Family Mass every month at 10am. The new music room is now located near the lower church, downstairs and to the right from the bathroom. If interested, please pick up and fill out a choir registration form at the back of the church, come see Miss Alexa after the 10am mass on September 18th, or email Miss Alexa at dayoan.alexa17@gmail.com We hope to hear your beautiful voices soon!

Thank you and God bless! Today is Fr. James Varghese’s last day with us. He returns to Rome on Monday to continue his studies. Fr. James has been

with us since the end of June and has been a big help to us. We will miss his friendly disposition, big smile and willingness to

do anything that was necessary. Please pray for him as he leaves and we hope to see him next summer.

Cleaning party We are having another cleaning party to help spruce up our church. All parishioners are invited to come on Saturday, September 24 at 10:30 am to be part of

the fun. We will focus a lot on the lower church, clean the upper the church and do other projects as

time permits. A light lunch will be provided for all workers.

Mass Book 2017 The Mass Book for 2017 will be open on Thursday,

September 22 at 9 am. Please remember that there will be no noon weekday Mass with the beginning of the New Year. The Sunday 12 noon Mass and the Friday evening 7:30 pm Mass

will be available for multiple intentions. The Mass for the Purgatorial Society is the first Saturday of the month at 8:30

am. The names of those enrolled in the purgatorial society will be listed in the bulletin once a month. Those enrolled in the

society remain so for one year.

Dear friends in Christ, Hello! My name is Lauren Gentry, and I am the new Youth Minister for the parish. I am so happy to be here and am very grateful for the warm welcome you all have given me. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and studied Theatre at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. I moved to New York in the spring of 2015 and spent the last year working as a thea-tre teacher for refugee children. Ministry has always been an important part of my life, from altar serving and lectoring at my parish in Nebraska, to leading retreats and cantoring in college, to starting a faith-sharing group for young women here in the city, working at Camp Veritas, and volunteering for Catholic Underground. I am very excited to work with the youth and young adults of the parish, both in leading the youth group and young adult group and in helping with the Confirmation classes. It is such a gift to have this opportunity to bring young people to the foot of the Cross and help them get to Heaven. If you see me around, please come say hi and introduce your-self! Fiesta de limpieza Vamos a tener otra fiesta de limpieza para ayudar a asear nuestra iglesia. Todos los

feligreses están invitados a venir el sábado, 24 de septiembre a las 10:30am para ser parte de esta diversión. Nos enfocaremos

mucho abajo en la iglesia, limpiaremos arriba la iglesia y haremos otros proyectos dependiendo el tiempo. Un almuerzo

El libro de Misas para el 2017 El libro de Misas para el 2017 estará abierto el jueves, 22 de

septiembre a las 9am. Por favor recuerden que ya no tendremos la Misa en la semana de las 12 del mediodía comenzando el Año Nuevo. La Misa del domingo a las 12 del mediodía y la

Misa de los viernes a las 7:30pm estará disponible para múlti-ples intenciones. La Misa para la sociedad del purgatorio es el

primer sábado del mes a las 8:30am. Los nombres escritos en la sociedad del purgatorio serán anotados en el boletín una vez al mes. Aquellos anotados en la sociedad permanecen por un año.

Estimados amigos en Cristo, ¡Hola! Mi nombre es Lauren Gentry, y soy la nueva Minis-tro de Jóvenes de la parroquia. Estoy muy contenta de estar aquí y estoy muy agradecida por la bienvenida que todos ustedes me han brindado. Yo crecí en Omaha, Nebraska y estudié Teatro en la Uni-versidad Butler en Indianápolis, Indiana. Me mudé a Nueva York en la primavera del 2015 y pasé el último año traba-jando como maestra de teatro para niños refugiados. El mi-nisterio siempre ha sido parte de mi vida, desde monaguillo y lector en mi parroquia en Nebraska, comenzando retiros y cantando en la universidad, y comenzando un grupo com-partiendo la fe para las mujeres jóvenes aquí en la ciudad, trabajé en el Campo Veritas, y fui voluntaria para Catholic Underground.
