blood
Blood is a body fluid in humans and other animals that delivers necessary nutrients
and oxygen to cells and transport metabolic waste away from those same cells
Functions of blood• Transports:– Dissolved gases (e.g. oxygen, carbon dioxide)– Waste products of metabolism (e.g. water, urea)– Hormones– Enzymes– Nutrients (such as glucose, amino acids, vitamins &minerals, fatty
acids, glycerol)– Plasma proteins (associated with defence, such as blood-clotting and
anti-bodies)– white blood cells 'leucocytes‘- phagocytises &immunity
• Maintains Body Temperature• Controls pH• Removes toxins from the body• Regulation of Body Fluid Electrolytes

Plasma
• Water organic compounds in organic compounds90-92% water salts and ions of sodium Pottassium and calcium
Plasma proteins• Albumin• Globulin• Fibrinogen
Amino acids EnzymesHormonsGlucose Vitaminsurea
RBCRBC
• Erythro cytes• Non nucliated• Biconcave disk shape• Carry oxygen from the lungs to the
tissuesandCo2 from the tissue to the lungs
WBC
• Also known as leucocytes• Number is much lesser than RBC• Amoeboid nucleated cells• Provide immunity• Helps in phagocytosis
WBC
PLATELETS• Also known as thrombocytes• Colourless flat granular cells• Smaller than RBC• Life span is 7 days• Helps in blood coagulation
