The Bloomington-Normal Young Professionals (BNYP) Kiwanis Club is celebrated it’s 4th birthday in Feb 2013

So, what have we done so far in our 2012-2013 Kiwanis year so far?

The MFB mission is to alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations.

We’ve worked our backs, arms, legs, and jaws (chatting) while sorting food for the Midwest Food Bank (MFB).

We accepted the Traveling Gavel from the El Paso Kiwanis Club (in a functional bird feeder). Rex from the El Paso club partners with Kindergartner kids to make up to 100 of these every year

We sorted food for the Clare House, a faith-based organization known for their soup kitchen and food pantry, during their annual fall food drive.

We celebrated the 90th anniversary of the Kewanee Kiwanis Club and were able to meet two past Kiwanis International Presidents!

We braved the freezing cold to raise money for the Salvation Army

The money raised is used to provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need.

We (actually) braved the freezing cold to participate in the 2013 Polar Plunge which benefits Special Olympics Illinois athletes.

We Bowled For Kids Sake (on the same day as the Plunge, no less) to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters whose mission is to help mentor children to reach their full potential

We played Bunco to help raise money for the Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation which provides grants to researchers specializing in Spastic Paralysis and other central nervous system

We hosted our 4th annual garage sale fundraiser for the Autism Society of McLean County’s Autism Camp.

We raised $3,000 dollars, sending 15 kids to camp for free

Autism Camp is dedicated to providing a valuable experience for children on the autism spectrum in a natural outdoor setting on Lake Bloomington.

Children have the opportunity to engage in typical camp activities, including, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, games, and much more in a safe and supportive atmosphere

We’ve had the good fortune of having the following folks come talk to our group:

• Deb Skillrud (newly elected Bloomington Township Supervisor) from Habitat for Humanity

• Michele Henson from Special Olympics of Illinois• Kathy Schniedwind from the Humane Society of

McLean County• Michelle Schneider and Brittin Haury from Big

Brothers Big Sisters• Sonya Mau from the Multicultural Leadership Program• Stan Cain and Josh Barnett from the City of

Bloomington Beautification Committee• Patrick Dullard from the Friends of the Constitution Trail

Together, as a club, we have socialized by:

celebrated the holidays (during a blizzard) at A. Renée

attending numerous happy hours

enjoying all manners of delicious, healthy, food

inter-clubbing

fundraising!

What are our club goals for 2012-2013, what have we accomplished and what do we have yet to do?

Rock out on volunteering!

Volunteer at least 250 hours (173 hours through March)

(6b) Complete a project to benefit the children or families of heros

(5b) Initiate and complete a new service project involving at least two new members

(1b) Honor a member or community volunteer with 25 years of service (have list, need to vote and present)

GROW and Learn!

(1c) Enroll new member committed to Six Objects of Kiwanis (goal is +6 members, +2 so far)

(2c) Enroll new member involved in youth services, mentoring

(5c) Certify club participation in either International Convention or District Convention (Jill will be attending International)

Certify completion of required club leadership education programs

Interclub Banner Patch Award (well on our way)

Spread the word and contribute!

(3b) Obtain $50+ donation payable to Kiwanis International Foundation (ELIMINATE) from private business (will get this)

(3c) Obtain $50+ donation payable to the District Foundation (Spastic Paralysis) from private business

(5a) Connect and Interact with Kiwanis Club in another Kiwanis district or nation

(6b) Launch a traditional or social media campaign to promote Kiwanis service
