International seminar for PhD
candidates in Law

IDSL 2020ABOUT IDSL 2020IDSL 2020 is an international doctoral seminar, organized by the Faculty of Law, University of
Ljubljana. The seminar offers PhD candidates the opportunity to engage in an academic discussion
with their fellow candidates as well as senior scholars and legal experts. It enables PhD
candidates from different countries to present their research, conducted for the purpose of their
PhD, and receive feedback on their work from legal experts, working in their field.
The 2020 seminar will focus on the fields of administrative and constitutional (both national
and European) law. The doctoral seminar will take place at the Faculty of Law, University of
Ljubljana (Slovenia) on 10 September 2020. In case the organization of the seminar at the Faculty
will not be possible for public health reasons, it will be organized online.
The language of the seminar is English.

PROGRAMME
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The seminar will be composed of several panels, focusing on specific topics and chaired by
recognized senior scholars and legal experts from different European countries. The students will
present their findings in panels and receive direct feedback from the chair and other panellists, as
well as other participating candidates.
A detailed programme, including the names of participating scholars and legal experts, will be
published after the conclusion of the selection procedure, based on the received applications.
Who can apply?
The doctoral seminar is aimed at doctoral (PhD) candidates in law at either early or more
advanced stages of their research. The topic of the presentation has to fall within the wider fields
of administrative or constitutional (both national or European) law.
What is the application procedure?
Interested candidates should send their application to: [email protected].
The application has to contain the title of the applicant’s PhD thesis, a short CV, the name of their
home institution, the name of the applicant’s PhD supervisor and an abstract of the presentation.
The abstract should be in English. It should not exceed 500 words and should cover all the key
aspects of the presentation.
What is the deadline for applications?
The deadline for applications is 1 July 2020.
What is the application fee?
Attendance at the seminar is free of charge. Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the
organiser. Travel and accommodation expenses are covered by the applicants.
Abstract review
All abstracts will be reviewed by a programme committee. The results will be communicated to the
applicants by 15 July 2020.
