Rock Port High School Organization UpdatesAs the second quarter of the
2015-2016 school year gets started, activities in student or-ganizations are well underway.
FBLA officers for the 2015-2016 school year are Kaleigh Farmer, President, Jade Lem-mon, Vice President, Dayle Da-vis, Secretary, Melanie Wilson, Student Council Representa-tive, and Journi Burke, Treasur-er. FBLA ended the 2014-2015 school year with 20 members. This year the organization re-cruited 23 new members, bring-ing the organization total to 39 members, almost doubling from last year!
On Friday October 9, FBLA hosted a lock-in for members at the school from 9:30 p.m.- 7:00 a.m. Students participated in a variety of crafts, board games, and other activities throughout the night. Twenty-three mem-bers attended, and the officers plan to hold another lock-in next year. Upcoming activities include Adopt a Family/Opera-tion Christmas Child, the chap-ter Christmas party, and perfor-mance events for contests held in Maryville towards the end of February.
FCCLA officers for the 2015-2016 school year are Chloe Sierks, President, Jade Lem-mon, Vice President of Com-mittees, Kaleigh Farmer, Vice President of STAR Events, Hannah Miller, Student Council Representative and Parliamen-tarian, Journi Burke, Historian, Paityn Alberti, Reporter, and Dayle Davis, Treasurer and Secretary. FCCLA ended the 2014-2015 school year with 41 members. This year, the organi-zation has 31 members.
RPHS FCCLA has recently offered many activities for members. Students went to the nursing home to paint pump-kins with residents, held a cake walk at Old Fashioned Saturday Night, and auctioned off a bas-ket filled with various goodies at the Pink Out Volleyball game to help raise money for Emily Zech, who is battling cancer. The organization also sold pink necklaces, megaphones, and breast cancer tattoos in honor of Emily. On Wednesday, Oc-tober 7, 22 members traveled to Maryville to attend the Re-gional Meeting, which updates all regional organizations on events throughout the year. Members heard Joe Fingerhut,
a motivational speaker from St. Louis. One upcoming activity is the annual Halloween service project; members dress up in costumes and “Trick-Or-Treat” for donations for the organiza-tion. Another upcoming activity is Cluster meeting in Indianapo-lis; officers will attend meetings and participate in team bonding experiences.
NHS officers for the 2015-2016 school year are Chloe Sierks, President, Alex Law-rence, Vice President, Jade Lemmon, Secretary, Ty Jones, Liaison, and Colby Linthicum, Student Council Representa-tive. The chapter has 18 mem-ber this year. One recent activ-ity was the formal induction of new members. Every year, new members accepted into the or-ganization gather at the school for an induction ceremony. Officers read in-depth descrip-tions of NHS morals, and new members light various candles representing the morals of the organization. Upcoming activi-ties include collecting shoes for Shoes for Orphan Souls and decorating Christmas wreaths.
FFA officers for the 2015-2016 school year are Alex Law-rence, President, Juleighanne Adams, Vice President, Mela-nie Wilson, Secretary, Kaycee Davis, Treasurer, Ben Lucas, Chaplin, Trenton Oswald, Sen-tinel, Nick Herron, Historian, Ally Demott, Reporter, and Josh Lucas, Parliamentarian. Last year, the organization end-ed with 34 members. This year, the chapter recruited 16 new members, bringing the total for the 2015-2016 school year to 49 members.
First quarter FFA activities included the annual FFA Fish Fry, Ag Expo, and Fruit Sales. Upcoming activities include National Convention and fall speaking contests. Six students will be make the long trip to Louisville, Ky., Tuesday, Oc-tober 27 through Saturday, Oc-tober 31 to attend the National FFA Convention. Members will have the opportunity to tour the Louisville Slugger Museum, at-tend a Jake Owen and Maddie and Tae concert, participate in various workshops, and listen to a variety of speakers.
As the 2015-2016 school year continues, these student organi-zations will continue to be ac-tive.
