SETTING UP1/2. Power On/Off switch/AC Power InBefore switching on, make sure Mains Voltagematches your areas Mains Voltage specification.Replace fuse only with the fuse-type marked onthe rear-panel label.

3. Balanced analog InputAudio Input is via a female XLR connector. TheInput is electronically balanced with followingconnections. The connections are printed onthe rear for easy reference.

If your signal source is unbalanced, usually theunused pin is connected to ground. This isnormally done inside the connecting cable.Special adapters (not supplied) can be boughtthat converts xlr input to single ended RCA typeinput. For best result use only good qualityscreened cables and connectors.

SwitchesOn the rear of the monitor you will find 5switches for setting up the monitor for optimumperformance in different acoustic environments. Each switch is explained in the following.

4. High Pass filter switchThis switch sets the lower cut-off frequency ofthe monitor. It is used to match the monitor to asubwoofer. You can select between 60Hz or80Hz X-over. Flat is used in case you do notuse a subwoofer to assist your monitors. Whenused with a subwoofer it is recommended touse either 60Hz or 80Hz filter, thus allowing ahigher undistorted sound-pressure level.

5. Level TrimUse this switch to match the sensitivity of theBM 6A mkII monitor to your source.

High-output SourceIf your source has a high output, set switch tothe -10 position to reduce sensitivity by 10dB.

Low-output sourceIf your source has a low output, set switch tothe +4 position to gain 4dB more sensitivity.

6. LFThis switch controls the bass gain level usingshelf-type EQ. The level can be set to +2dB,0dB or -2dB.This filter is used to adjust for the proximity ofboundaries, so if positioned close to wall orcorner, use the -2dB setting. If positioned farfrom walls use the +2dB or 0 position, depending on other equipment, and personaltaste.

7. MFThis switch sets a notch filter, used tocompensate for the acoustic effect of a console.Such placement usually results in a responsepeak in lower midrange. The MF switchactivates a bell shaped notch filter, which cancompensate. Use either the -2 or the -4dBsetting. You may experiment finding the setting, which provides the flattest response.

8. HFThis switch controls the Treble level and it isused to match the high end of the monitor toyour other electronic equipment, and youracoustical environment. Use the settingproviding the preferred timbre. If the sound istoo bright; try to set to -1dB to reduce treble by1dB. If too dull sound, use +1dB setting to raisethe treble by 1dB.

INDICATORS & POSITIONING

IndicatorsOn the front you will find 2 diodes. These arepositioned just above the Dynaudio Logo.

The green power diode indicates speakeron/off status. Green indicates; “power on”.

The second diode has two functions. When the output stage is close to clipping

the LED will light up orange. And it will light upred when the amplifier gets too hot. At thesame time the monitor will be muted, in order toreduce the temperature.

ProtectionThe BM 6A mkII monitor has several built inprotection systems to reduce the risk of hazardor damage due to overloading. Both power amplifiers have thermal protection. This activates if a problem should occur, andhelps protect both the electronics and theloudspeaker drivers.

There is also a thermal sensor measuring thetemperature on the heat sink. An electroniccircuit will mute the signal when too hightemperature is reached. The protection diodeon the front will light up when this happens.

On the tweeter output there is an overloadprotection to prevent burning the tweeter driverin case of overloading. This circuit will mute thetweeter signal if too much current is fed to thetweeter.

PositioningThe BM 6A mkII is designed as a near to mid-field monitor and can be equally well used inboth stereo and surround setups. Optimalperformance is achieved when positioned 1-3meters from the listener. It can be placed on stands or on the meterbridge of a console provided that the meterbridge is sufficiently sturdy. For best results thespeakers may be aimed towards the listener inboth vertical and horizontal planes.

Note:Be aware that proper air circulation around themonitor for sufficient cooling is necessary. Alsonotice that the heat sink is designed to providemaximum cooling when the monitor ispositioned vertically.

MISCELLANEOUS

TroubleshootingIf Power LED lights green and no sound, checkyour input signal f.ex. by switching speakers.

If power LED does not light at all and no sound, check the fuse. If replaced and still no soundcontact your Dynaudio Acoustics Dealer.

If protection LED lights red check thetemperature of the heat sink. If it feels hot turnoff the speaker and wait for some 10 minutes toallow the amplifier to cool off. Turn it on again. If it works now it is ok, but you may need moreair circulation around your speaker to avoidoverheating to take place again.

CareComponents of the highest quality is used inyour BM 6A mkII. This assures years of troublefree operation. Following precautions shouldstill be made though.Avoid running the system into severe clipping.Even there is an advanced protection system, you may be able to destroy your speakers bysevere overpowering. When a noticeabledistortion occurs, please turn down the level toyour speakers.

Avoid hot plugging the equipment connected tothe monitors. Always turn off the speaker andother equipment when plugging or unpluggingsignals, or switching equipment on or off.Do not touch the drive units by hand. Thetweeter especially uses a very fine fabric domewith a ultra thin coating.

Options The BM 6A mkII may be combined with aDynaudio Acoustics subwoofer for extendedbass performance, and higher spl if highpassfilter is used. See Setting Up.
