Composition• Betaines (GABA, DAVA,
etc.)• Micro and 2° nutrients• Traces of vitamins (40
mg/kg)• Polysaccharides (50%
DM) Oligosaccharides
1.3-1.6 B glucan
Actions• Better uptake of mineral
elements• Preferential redistribution
of elements• Stimulation of nitrate
reductase and phosphatase enzyme systems (Mannitol)
• Increase in pollen tube formation
• Initiation of polyamine production
Polyamines
• Principal polyamines:PutrescineSpermidine Spermine
• Ubiquitous in plant cells (Smith et al., 1979; Bagni and Pistocchi, 1992)
• Play an important role at the time of flowering, pollination and the first stage of fruit development (Costa et al., 1984)
Polyamines
Polyamines
• Levels increase greatly in response to environmental stresses (Flores et al., 1989)
• Implicated in the regulation of cell division, senescence and morphogenesis (Evans and Malmberg, 1989)
• Inhibit biosynthesis of ethylene (Applebaum et al., 1981)
• May serve as precursors of several classes of alkaloids which may play plant defense roles (Smith et al., 1979, Hashimoto and Yamada, 1994)

Summary• Statistical data suggest the response to
treatments will be more apparent for good growing conditions, especially under irrigated conditions.
• Mapping shows higher number of fruiting branches, bolls per plant, pos 1 & 2 bolls (statistically significant in the desert), 95% zone FP1 bolls.
• Putrescine level raised but spermidine and spermine were not, probably due to length of interval from application to measurement (2005).
Goëmar BM 86
Summary• Reduction in chlorophyll fluorescence (2005).• Increase in ovules per ovary (2005).• Statistical difference in yield for Acala in S.J.
Valley.• Numerical difference in yield for Pima in S.J.
Valley.• Numerical trends in other varieties in other regions
however not enough trials nor replications to show statistical significance at this date.
• Large number of replicated trials will be performed on upland cotton throughout the cotton belt in 2007.
