BMC Set-Up
• Set up as a co-operation, Not a Government Body
• Formed under the Mumbai Muncipal Corporation Act 1888
• Objective: For providing Basic Civic services to the city
• City divided in 24 Wards for smooth adminstration

Governance of BMC • There are 227 Corporator Seats across 24 Administrative Wards
• These corporators are elected once every 5 years
• The corporators are Elected Representative of the residents, by the residents and for the residents of the constituency
• The residents are consumers of the BMC services
• Corporators elect a Mayor amongst them, who serves as a ceremonial head
• Muncipal Commissioner is nominated by the State Government
• Muncipal Commissioner serves as a Head and the CEO of the BMC
Role of Corporator • Ensure the BMC does its job in relation to its constituency
• Represent the population of the constituency
• Understand the concerns and issues of the constituency • To represent the constituency in Ward & council committee meeetings
• To attend the council committee meetings, • Ask questions • Raise attention to the concerns of the constituency
• Development Fund : Each Corporator is given Rs. 60 lakh to be used for development of the respective constituency
Corporator Performance
Attendance: • 40% of councilors have 80 -100 % attendance in 2016
Question asked: • 20% of complaints were on Roads whereas 18% of questions i.e maximum questions were asked on Naming of Roads
• 55% of the councillors have asked about 1-5 questions
