Director, David Montgomery has been working inI.T. since leaving college in the mid 1980’s, workingat Burnley Office Supplies, Dentons of Burnley,Sankey Office Supplies, Axion Systems andNavigator Solutions before forming AdvantageComputers almost 5 years ago.

Up until recently, all our recommendations wereby word of mouth. That requires a lot of faith onbehalf of the customer and it’s something we don’ttake lightly.

We design and write custom database solutions,working closely with the customer to deliver trulyusable solutions. Nowadays the “usable” part of thatstatement is very important. It’s so easy to overcomplicate things.

We also offer service and support for hardwareand software and can fit with any role, whether its

ad-hoc service on an hourly basis or a fully managedservice on a monthly retainer. Burnley FC Community SportsTrust is a registered charityworking under the auspices ofBurnley Football Club. We are anot for profit organisation who’sprimary objective is to deliverprojects which aim to benefitcommunities accross EastLancashire, North Yorkshire and at

times Europe. In 2008/09 BurnleyFC Community Sports Trustinvested £1.3 million into ourcommunity activities.

Promotion to the English Premier Leaguecatapulted Burnley Football Club into the big time.

And proud club sponsor David Fishwick says hisbeloved club’s ascension to the English PremierLeague also helped boost his own new ventures andbusiness developments.

David, whose name sits atop the stand where theteams emerge at Turf Moor, has resolutely fought offturbulent economic tailwinds buffeting the UK'sbusiness landscape.

And the self-made 38-year-old has also managedto keep his burgeoning national van, minibus andmini-coach sales - and in-house vehicle conversionbusiness - on track for another year of growth.

“I've been involved with the club for about fiveyears,” he explained.

“I've also sponsored the 5,000-strong stand, andto be honest having the Fishwick Stand has been anamazing public relations coup for us.

“I didn't believe in the huge power of football formarketing but it's truly been incredible.

“We chose that stand because the home andaway supporters sit in it and it’s neatly in the TV arc,so it's really helping to get the brand out there.”

Right now, raising the bar for brand andmarketing is firmly on the radar for Mr Fishwick, whois planning to take his already successful business upa notch and consider further expansion.

To this end, he has recently embarked on a name-change for his company to David Fishwick Minibus,dropping the previous sole alliance to LDV in thebusiness name.

This, he says, newly reflects its recent stellargrowth to supply all types of minibuses and vans tohis typical client companies such as travelbusinesses, local authorities, schools and hospitals.

Although chiefly well-known for years as theleading supplier of LDV vehicles, the new economicreality means that David Fishwick is also a principaldealer for most brands,

including Mercedes, Fiat, Iveco, Optare and VW,either as factory-built minibuses, or increasingly asconversions - customising vehicles to specific, tailor-made requirements.

Today, to meet demand for the growing marketfor conversions, his South Wales factory has capacityto build more than 1,000 vehicles a year - makingthe company the largest supplier of wheelchairaccessible vehicles and mini coaches in the country.

“Although the recession has been tough andmade for a difficult year, the business does have arecession-proof element to it because schools andlocal authorities, for example, still need to get theirbuses,” explained Mr Fishwick.

So what propels the man behind this success?Like most entrepreneurs, Mr Fishwick admits he is

driven by a compulsion to 'do the deal' rather thanbe hide-bound by process and systems.

It's a long way from his departure from school at16 without any qualification, but a

lorry , or rather, van load of ambition!“I came from a poor but hardworking background

but that never prevented me from always having ahuge sense of ambition.

“I've always liked having a goal and thenachieving it.’

Having made his first million in his 20s from thebusiness and then deciding to expand that horizonto becoming a multi-millionaire in his 30s – replete

today with his own helicopter and Ferrari's - MrFishwick is keen to stress it's not just about themoney.

“What the money does offer is choice - to learn tofly, say, or to travel, to invest and try out new thingsfor a business - but the greater challenge is todevelop and keep on creating new opportunities.”

One pressing task on his 'to do' list is raising hisprofile further, revealing that he's already beenapproached by Secret Millionaire - Channel 4's show

that follows a self-made entrepreneur goingundercover to work with charities or groups helpingsociety's less well-off, only to reveal their trueidentity and a cheque to match later - and other

similar programmes.“I've not - yet! - decided to opt for such shows but

there might be one I do appear on in theforthcoming weeks, but I can't yet reveal it - butkeep your eyes peeled on prime-time TV!” helaughed.
