Attachment A (Personnel), Page 19- A Professional Statement – Instruction and Staff Development Sonya Smith – Reading Teacher Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Sociology in 1988 from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam and her Master of Science as a Reading Specialist from SUNY at Potsdam in 1994. Sonya holds permanent certification as a Reading Specialist. She also holds certification as an Elementary Teacher, grades N-6. Last year, Sonya worked in Brasher Falls as a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Assistant in the morning and as a Reading Teacher Assistant in the afternoon where she had taught second, third, and fourth grades, as well. She has held long term substitute positions at Brasher Falls and Malone and served as the Pre-Kindergarten Head Teacher at the SUNY Potsdam Child Care Center. She has received training in Reading First, DIBELS, and Effective Teaching among others. Sonya is a resident of Nicholville and is very active in the Brasher Falls PTO and community.
