Board of Education Brighton Area Schools Regular Meeting Monday, July 10, 2017 7:00 PM – BECC

Minutes

I. Call to Order Vice President Chesney called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. II. Pledge of Allegiance Vice President Chesney led the board in reciting the pledge of allegiance. III. Roll Call

Members present: Ken Stahl, Dave Chesney, John Conely, Bill Trombley, Roger Myers and Alicia Reid, 1 absent – Burchfield. Also present: Superintendent Gray, Assistant Superintendents Gistinger and Surrey, staff, press, and visitors.

IV. Approval of Agenda

Motion: To approve the agenda as presented. Moved by: Myers Supported by: Reid Supported by: Voice vote: 6 ayes, 1 absent – Burchfield. Motion carried.

V. Call to the Public

There were no public comments offered. VII. Superintendent Report

Dr. Gray reported on the following items: New buses, painting at BHS and that the school districts bond rating has been upgraded to the (A) range.

VIII. Board of Education Bulletins None.

IX. For Action A. Motion: To approve the minutes of June 26, 2017 as presented.

X. For Future Action

A. Board Norm Resolution – The following draft was presented for board review: Whereas the Brighton Area Schools Board of Education, hereinafter the “Board”, acknowledges that articulating the commitment of the Board’s members to collaboration and team work assists the Board in working for the best interests of the Brighton Area Schools, the Board adopts this resolution as a statement of purpose: -- The Board and its members will seek to uphold the law and the policies of this school district; -- The Board members will use their talents for the betterment of the district and promotion of the district's best interest; and -- The Board members will engage with each other, the Brighton Area Schools administration, school staff, and community respectfully and ethically in honor of the position of public trust held by each member.

B. BESPA, Tentative Agreement – This item was presented for board review and will be placed on the August 14 agenda for consideration.

C. LED Lighting Proposal – Pete Shepard provided an overview of the proposal and answered questions from the board.

XI. Board Committee Reports

Treasurer Stahl provided an update on facilities and meeting with a focus group.

XII. Second Call to the Public Wilson Ikens addressed the board regarding the board norm resolution.

XIII. Closed Session Motion: To enter closed session for the purpose of approving of the June 26, 2017 closed minutes.

Roll call vote: 6 ayes, 1 absent – Burchfield. Motion carried. Board entered closed session at 7:57 p.m. Meeting recessed at 7:58 p.m.
