Imagine Yourself...
LIVING WITH YOUR FRIENDS
Living at school, gaining independence, and having the opportunity to discover yourself is boarding school life.
Life-long friendships develop in the close community that is resident life. At Villanova it also means becoming
acquainted with students from a variety of countries and their cultures. Respecting differences, understanding how to
develop friendships, and developing the independence necessary for college life are all part of the boarding experience.
ON THE STAGE OR SPORTS FIELD
The small school community allows every student to participate in
athletics and a variety of campus activities. It might be your first time
on stage, playing football, running track or swimming competitively,
but you are welcome to join the fun,
experience the bonds that are formed,
and share the unforgettable memories.
TRAVELING THE WORLD
Close friendships developed
on campus with international
students can mean traveling with
them for a summer or holiday visit
to their home country. Or perhaps,
you would prefer the two-week
student exchange with Colegio
San Augustin in Peru.
“My favorite memories from my four years were the experiences that took place outside of school, like having my international friends stay for Christmas vacation and going to China and Indonesia in the summers. If I had not gone to Villanova, there is no way I would have the global knowledge and friendships that I have today.”
-Riley ‘14, UC Davis
ENjOYING THE WEEkEND WITH FRIENDS
Since Villanova is only 15 minutes from the endless California coastline and just over
an hour from Los Angeles, the dorm council has plenty of options when planning
upcoming trips for the weekend. Whether fun
or educational, or both, dorm trips provide
opportunities to make the most of your years at
Villanova. From Laker games to museum trips
led by faculty, shared interests often strengthen
bonds between friends and mentors. Weekends
are what you make them, whether you need to
relax and unwind, catch up or get ahead in your
studies, or simply create memories.
DROPPING BY THE CLASSROOM
You need help with a physics lab, or an English essay, or a challenging math
problem, so you swing by the classroom to ask a few questions.
Teachers welcome you, and in fact, encourage you to take
advantage of their presence each day after class for
individual help or to join a study group.
PART OF A TRIBE
Traditions are part of Villanova. Some
long established like Wildcat Day bring
the school community together for a
raucous day of field events, with every
student a part of a Villanova tribe.
Others like Nova Bowl, the cardboard
boat regatta, and the all-school
service day are more recent additions
to campus life. Each of these allows
every Villanova student to join the
school community and the fun.
GAINING INDEPENDENCE
Learning about yourself, finding your voice,
understanding your strengths, challenging
yourself to stretch beyond your limits are the
ingredients for developing independence. Your years
at Villanova will nurture these qualities.

Just a few steps away...DINING TOGETHER
Evening meals Monday through Thursday are family-
style, providing the opportunity to get to know
classmates and come together as a community.
Faculty join students on Wednesday evenings and
the conversations are lively as teachers and students
make those personal connections that are part of the
Villanova experience.
AN IDEAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Two evening teachers to help, space for group study
and projects, silent study areas, and comfortable lounge
chairs all provide the right environment and support for
academic success. Whether it’s help with a college essay
or preparing for tomorrow’s history quiz, evening study
and the resources available foster learning.
…is the path to your future.
SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT
Roommates, friends, classmates, dorm prefects,
teammates, mentors, teachers, counselors, resident
staff are all here for you. Unity is a core value at
Villanova, and draws together the community. Full-
time dedicated residential life staff provide individual
and small group support to students. A structured
study time each evening means academics are the
priority.
DISCOVER YOURSELF
Your time at Villanova will give you an understanding of
who you are, and your place in an increasingly complex
and interdependent world. The independence you
develop living as part of Villanova’s resident life will give
you the skills and confidence to prepare you for success
in college and beyond. You will become an explorer on
your own educational expedition.
FITNESS AND EXERCISE
Morning weights are part
of the football regimen.
The same is true for
basketball and water
polo. New elliptical
machines have just
arrived and the gym
is open after study hall
in case you couldn’t
squeeze a work-out into
an earlier part of your day.
CORE VALUES OF AN AUGUSTINIAN EDUCATION:
UNITAS [Unity]
The Villanova community expresses unity
by welcoming students from diverse
backgrounds, by valuing and respecting
each person. Unitas brings together
members of the Villanova community
through: retreats, Freshman Welcome Week,
Beach Day, Wildcat Day, and Spirit Week.
VERITAS [Truth]
Love of learning, the acquisition of
knowledge that leads to wisdom, and the
discipline of study are expressions of the
core value of truth, which allow students to
gain insights as they transform themselves
from adolescent to adult. Veritas is
expressed in activities such as: International
Day, Junior Leadership Mass and Dinner,
and Nova Bowl.
Not just an education...
CARITAS [Love]
Villanova is a place where
love of God and others find
welcome and encouragement.
Acts of respect and welcome,
kindness, friendship and
service to others are the daily
expression of caritas on campus
and are encouraged by:
service trips, Campus Ministry’s
Thanksgiving and Christmas
Drives, Tribe Service Day, and
the Service Fair.
…a journey, even an adventure.

“Being away from my mom was one of the hardest things I’ve been through, but I have matured and feel ready for the wonderful life I have ahead of me. Living in the dorm has helped me become more independent. I have grown here at Villanova and I have found myself.“
Dominique ‘15
“I am a better student from living in the dorm. Think about it: studying… with your friends. Their good study habits rubbed off on me. Living on my own for the first time caused me to take charge of my own responsibilities. And it was fun! I was nervous at first entering a dorm with such a diverse international population, but we played sports together, watched television and played games. The structure of the environment meant no distractions, and I thrived.“
Jacob ‘15
“I was hesitant at first, especially because I had never even considered boarding school until months before, but there was something special about Villanova that attracted me. When I arrived on campus, I immediately found out what that was. The support! I am confident in taking risks and have been able to challenge myself to become a better person, taking my responsibilities to the next level as a dorm prefect and by joining student government.“
Celeste ‘16
“I spent my freshman year studying abroad in France and it was hard being far away from home. Now I am able to take the train home to San Diego for the weekend. Villanova is the most welcoming and diverse environment I’ve been in, and because of this I’ve discovered more about myself than I ever imagined. I’m pushed beyond my limits here, but it has definitely helped me grow as a student and as an adult.“

…where you will grow.
“I speak French, Swahili, and Lingala, but English was new to me when I entered Villanova. After only one year, I have improved so much that I am now in AP English Language and Composition, Spanish 1, and I’ve begun learning Chinese from my dorm mates. I love learning about new cultures and hope to work in a global environment.“
Robert ‘16
“The staff here at Villanova has treated me like a family member, making me more confident while I study here in America so far from my home in Vietnam.“
Hung ‘16
“At first, I was nervous to attend a Catholic school because that is not something I know much about. People are so nice and open to me as a new student. I love the teachers and study methods, and the weather. Already I have felt Villanova’s values of unity, truth and love.“Serafim ‘17
“On the first day of school, I sat with a group of boys that I recognized from my Science class. They have become my best friends and one of them, Jeff, just visited my home in Japan over the summer. After going to Jeff’s house many times during the school year, I felt honored to host him in my home.“
