will join us for the 9th year in a row, filling the air with traditional music to welcome show-goers. If you arrive at the show from the Lonsdale Quay Seabus, you’ll walk along the Spirit Trail, a collaboration between the Squamish Nation and the City of North Vancouver. On your way you will pass by the Trans-Canada pavilion carved by Coast Salish artist Darren Yelton and adorned with traditional First Nation symbols of peace and friendship, the K’ay’achtn’s (Greeting Figures) will welcome you to their sacred area.

Whether this is your first or ninth visit to the show, I’d like to offer our greetings and invite you to experience our First Nation’s hospitality. On behalf of everyone that contributed to making this year’s show a success, let me welcome you to the 9th Annual Boat Show at the Creek.

It takes a village to plan a boat show, and I couldn’t possibly thank the crew at Mosquito Creek enough for their fantastic work. Heather Spence, Shawna Baker, and Carly Rough in the Mosquito Creek Marina office are in constant contact with the hundreds of brokers, vendors and sponsors. They spend months leading up to the show organizing and processing mountains of registration forms and contracts. The team coordinates almost 3,000 feet of dock space, dozens of on-land exhibitors and still finds the time to fill the office with laughter.

Operations manager Quinn Schneider and lift master Michael Nahanee along with the rest of the Mosquito Creek crew move over 200 vessels and booths into the show - and back out four days later - with the speed and finesse of a well-oiled machine. They pull off this monumental task year after year, taking whatever comes at them and thinking on their feet to ensure that everyone involved experiences a safe and stress-free boat show.

The Squamish people have a great and long standing tradition of welcoming visitors to their territory. The First Nation singers, drummers, and dancers

are once again Western Canada’s largest floating boat show, and continue to see rapid growth as we approach the end of our first decade. When the show comes to a close every September, we set new goals and strive to bring something new and exciting the following year.

From the inception of the show in 2006, the development and continued success we see as each year passes is owed to the partnerships and support received from the brokers, vendors and sponsors. The Big Ten Brokers keep the crowds in awe by displaying some of the best yachts available in today’s market. The brokers agree unanimously that the Boat Show at The Creek is a buyers’ show, with more sales and connections made than any other shows they attend.

nars on Sunday, 20-September, pre-sented by independent experts and experienced boaters, throughout the day. The seminar program will touch on a variety of subjects: from how to select your first boat, to the unique aspects of local cruising.

Origi-nally called the Queen of the Islands, it was the first ferry built to service the Southern Gulf Islands, and it has pre-served much of its historical character with restored original oak paneling. the next PhaseIt’s been a very exciting time for our float home community. Spirit Trail Ocean Homes Phase One and Two are completely sold out, and we are taking orders for Phase Three. The new moorage will be located along the Fuel Bar road, following the Spirit Trail expansion and features our new Luxury Yacht Homes (see page 12 (or whatever page it ends up) for more information). Annual Boatshow at the Creek. 2012 saw the preparation for and

installation of many of the 20 float homes. The

Marina is becoming a wonderful community of float homes, boats, and

people enjoying the fantastic

facilities and best location in

Vancouver.

2012 also saw the

christening of three new tug boats by Seaspan Marine

Corp, and the exciting news of the awarding of their shipbuilding contract. The

future of the North shore marine industry is looking

brighter and brighter and the Squamish Nation

Marine Group is contributing to that growth and innovation.

This year the 6th Annual

Boatshow at the Creek will be bigger and better than ever with new boats,

vendors, and displays that highlight why we love being

Together with our lands and homes, our customs and traditions are the foun-dation of who we are as Skwxwú7mesh Stelmexw, and it is in that spirit that I welcome you to our 9th Annual Boat Show at the Creek.

It has been through partnerships, many lasting for generations, that our culture has remained rich and resilient. Our annual boat show has grown and ben-efited these last nine years through the work of the many partners, sponsors, and friends who have helped it become the largest floating boat show in Western Canada.
