Boho Daddys Little GirlSetting out to prove she is more than Daddy’s little girl, Jasmine Di Milo, daughter of Harrods owner, Mohammad Al Fayed, is steadily carving a name for herself on the fashion scene. Her current season catwalk theme is inspired by Japanese Anime and old-fashioned films. She has named one of her collection “Scarface” as a homage to the 1983 classic with Al Pacino. The 28-year-old has nominally distanced herself from her famous father, but opened her first store within the hallowed halls of Harrods. Jasmine’s studio is in the shadow of London’s most famous department store,where she is steadily becoming the hot designer for the celebrity party posse in the city. She is not the Knights-bridge princess one might expect. There are the tattoos visible; one slender forearm reveals a large tiger’s head crowned with the words “GOD IS LOVE”. On the other is a pair of wings. Her look is west London rock chick. Polished, with an edge. Her latest designs are the must have for red carpet A list celebrity circuit.

Gothic GlamMove over florals, gothic glam is all the rage this autumn/winter. Hot from the New York catwalks, the Dark Angels descend. Rich velvets, delicate

lace and burlesque feathers all come in the black variety for this season. On the runways, Dark Glamour

is chock-a-block with black. There are black dresses by Galliano, Givenchy, and Gareth

Pugh. There are black dresses by designer Ann Demeulemeester, the so-called “Dark Queen of Belgian Fashion”. Bohomodels has looked in the region for this Addams family goth-inspired fashion and has found some fantastic dark glamour at Cocolove Boutique, Sunderland. As Coco

Chanel once said, fashion has to die to live, and you would die for some of these creations.

Boho Careless WhispersElena Corchero is an experienced fashion designer who is breaking the boundaries between fashion and technology. Smart textiles and wearable technology sound like some Blade Runner fantasy, but electronic components like solar cells, resistors, and LEDs integrated directly into the textile and wired together into working circuits using conductive thread is all part of the products’ design. Elena has a fine arts background and specialist knowledge in smart textiles through work on wearable technologies as a research associate in MIT Media Lab Europe Human Connectedness.

Recently graduated in MA Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins, Elena has developed new aesthetics for solar wearable technologies, inspired by tradition and antique embellishment techniques. She is currently a senior research associate at Distance Lab, and the founder of Lost Values.

An example of this fashion tech fusion is the whiSpirala spiral-shaped shawl that carries whispers of your loved ones. Gifts and keepsakes allow us to remember friends and loved ones when we travel or move to far away places. The whiSpiral is a new kind of keepsake that explores how technology can enhance the way garments and accessories evokememories of these relationships.

Circuitry integrated directly in the textile allows your friends to record short audio messages at different points in a spiral-shaped shawl. These mes-

sages are whispered back each time you wrap the shawl around yourself, or by caressing different parts of the

fabric. Inspired by the power of a simple human voice to evoke rich memories of a person or

relationship, and by the power of a whisper as a medium of intimacy. The Lost Values boutique ethos is to “create only hand crafted and limited edition products ethically manufactured”, a vision of the future. Elena is available for commissions, collaborations, exhibitions, talks and workshops worldwide. In addition to her mother tongue of Spanish,

she is fluent in English and German with a working knowledge of French.
