LIST OF WITNESSES WHO GAVE EVIDENCE AT THE GOLDSTONE COMMISSION

1. Major Davidson:- Appears on behalf of the Minister of Law and

Order and the Commissioner of the South

African Police.

2. Pieter Gabriel Van Wyk:- South.African defence Force (at the time wasJ

a mayor in Vaal Commands) employed by

Iskor.

3. Tokyo Sexwale:-

4. Meshack Theoane:- The petrol attendant at Trek Garage - at the

comer of Frikkie Meyer and Noble Boulevard.

He saw a group of approximately 200-300

men at around 21h30 moving towards

Boipatong. He saw two Hippos parked near

the soccer grounds. Later saw police moving

into Boipatong (after attack).

5. Edison Themba Koti: - A Slovo Park resident at shack 13 (corner

Bakoena and Bapedi Street).

Saw white men in camouflage clothing with

long guns.

Saw a Hippo in Bapedi Street dropping

approximately 15 men wearing white

headbands.

Saw a group of men leaving Boipatong

through Amatolo and Bafokeng streets with

two hippos following them.

6. Miss A: - A resident of Slovo Park - saw three white

men wearing balaclavas with a group of black

men. White men participated in the attack.

7. Jonas Mthombeni: - Resides at 113 Bapedi Street - saw a caspir

and a large group of men in front of it.

8. Florence Molete: - Resides at 17 Slovo Park, (was with her

sister Mirriam Molete, her husband Pule

Lekabe and other daughter Mita)

(Heard a man speaking Zulu with a white

accent) - He had a rifle - wearing a balaclava.

Saw two caspirs turning into Sekhukhuni

street.

9. Miss B: - (cnr of Bafokeng and Hlubi streets)

Saw caspir turn into Hlubi street.

10. Ishmael Mahasella: - Worker - Cape Gate.

Was at work on the night of the attack

South African Defence Force van which

called for help.

A Mr Pienaar (a Cape Gate worker) arrived in

a army vehicle and said that nothing was

happening in the township - he then escorted

white workers out of the area.

Saw Hippo following a group of men (Hlubi

street)

Had stopped a Hippo to seek help - was put

inside the Hippo - went to 761 Hlubi street

with them. Went to 765 with the police.

Resides at 244 Thababosiu street

Was a special constable at Vereeniging

South African Police Station and contacted

Riot Unit. Met another caspir at the cnr of

Hlubi and Lekoa streets.

(resident of Kwa-Madala)

Moved to Kwa-Madala - his friend Ziga had

been killed by comrades, (in small farm,

Evatbn).

Entered Boipatong through Lekoa street.

Saw police at Frikkie Meyer Boulevard.

Security guard at Trek garage (employed by

Misdaad voorkoming security).

Saw a group of people from Kwa-Madala

Saw a caspir standing near the veld.

Activated alarm at garage when he saw the

group - Police came and he told them what

k \ e had seen. They then drove off.

Lance sergeant stationed at internal stability

unit in Vereeniging - Unit 19.

On 17th were told to go to Boipatong. (Sgt

Kruger was in command) - had received a

report that a group of people had been

smashing and attacking houses in Boipatong

at approximately 22h10.

Met a man at # 761 (Hlubi street)

(Had earlier seen another caspir in Lekoa

street) - moving toward Noble Boulevard.

Went into 761 Hlubi.

Contacted radio control office and requested

that ambulances be sent to Boipatong and

the people necessary for investigations be

sent.

Proceed to Cape Gate.

Vereeniging internal stability unit.

At approximately 21h45 received reports of

trouble in Boipatong from the radio control

room.

Saw army vehicle parked at Frikkie Meyer

and Noble Boulevard.

Turned into Kwa-Madala - was informed that

all the residents were inside.

Were sent to stability unit to make

statements.
