Bokkie Review 2012It is with sincere gratitude and extreme excitement that we present this book to you as a record of Bokkie’s travels, events and antics during this last year.
We at Tag Rugby® Promotions are privileged to have been able to support the South African Rugby Union (SARU) in continuing to promote their
Springbok Ambassador and Rugby Superhero during 2012.
This past year we have become acutely aware that Bokkie has become even more well- known across all communities and very popular amongst old and
young alike.
Through Bokkie SARU is indeed increasing their supporter base and promoting the game of rugby at all levels and for all our
national teams.
Bokkie has been able to educate others that rugby is not just about a 90 minute game on the field but is about making good choices, showing good sportsmanship, commitment and caring genuinely for others.
Bokkie’s enjoyment of the game of rugby, his strong sense of values and his love for all South Africans has become infectious and stems from his great pride for the Springboks.
Bokkie is honoured to wear the Springbok jersey!

9. Zakumi Our favourite mascot, showing our love for everything that is local and lekker, has to be Bokkie, the Springbok mascot. Bokkie is full of energy, loves Springbok fans and promotes respect for referees and opposing teams. We hope to see a lot more of Bokkie cheering on the Boks to victory in the near future.

Bokkie enjoys training alongside all our national rugby teams and he gives his full support to them both on and off the field. He is there to greet them at the airport when they leave or return from their tours, he leads them out onto the field, attends their open practices and of course he watches ALL their games. Bokkie is there to support, encourage and celebrate with the teams.

Bokkie is always very proud to support all the Springbok rugby teams. He got physical with the Blitzbokke at many of their coaching clinics and helped the children to learn more about the game of rugby, as well as valuable lessons about team work. The children loved seeing Bokkie playing rugby and they enjoyed the fun giveaways that they received.

There was great excitement in Cape Town in the month of June as they hosted the IRB Junior World Cup. Bokkie was there to support our Junior Springboks throughout the tournament. A highlight for the Springbok Mascot was to celebrate with them when they won the trophy at the final against the Junior All Blacks at the DHL Newlands stadium.

LADIESFor the first time Bokkie was able to support our Springbok ladies in 2012. He led the team onto the field, sang the National Anthem with them and cheered them on from the side lines. The supporters were very excited to see Bokkie and to have their photos taken with him.

The Cape Town Tens is a fun event on the rugby calendar and Bokkie was there to support the teams and mingle with the spectators, despite the intense summer heat. Bokkie was well received at the very first Jozi Tens which launched at Pirates Rugby club in September.

Bokkie went on tour during the Vodacom cup to promote SARU’s Community rugby event and to spend some time with the South African rugby fans. From all these interactions we could see yet again that Bokkie is loved by all, regardless of age, gender, race or rugby union!

Castle Incoming TourCastle Incoming TourAs part of Springbok Test Match promotions schools were invited to enter a photo of their class or team supporting the Springboks. Bokkie visited the winning school and delivered a Bokkie assembly. One learner was then picked from the winning group to be the mascot at the game in their region. Two learners had the incredible opportunity to run onto the field with Bokkie and to sing the National anthem with the Springbok team, whilst standing next to Jean De Villiers. They also watched the game at the stadium, visited the change room after the game and received Springbok rugby kit and Bokkie gifts. Bokkie was very involved in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg in creating an atmosphere of excitement around the test matches.

DAYMADIBAOn Madiba day Bokkie rolled up his sleeves and did his 67 minutes at Monteith Primary school in Grabouw. Bokkie and the Tag Rugby® staff set up 8 rugby related activity stations for the 100 learners aged from 6 -14 years. They all participated in the activities and had a lot of fun. Afterwards they were given special South African flag cupcakes and Bokkie stationery hampers. It was an extremely enjoyable morning and we were pleased to have Khaya Mayedwa there to address the children.

Bokkie travelled the country for the Championship tour from the hallowed grounds at Newlands to the heart of the FNB Stadium in Soweto. He visited schools, hospitals and shopping malls and met with fans at the open training sessions and supported the official SARU retailers at their various outlets. He had the honour of leading the Springboks onto the field at all three stadiums and was there to cheer and celebrate with the supporters.

Cell COne of the highlights on the South African rugby calendar is definitely the Cell C NMB Sevens which was hosted by the “friendly city” of Port Elizabeth. Bokkie was there at the launch of the tournament and he rubbed his very large shoulders with many celebrities who also turned up to support the event. His magnetic smile and enthusiasm instantly put everyone at ease and set the scene for “Rugby’s Biggest Party”.

BokkieBokkie works very hard in the week of the tournament and he is given a warm welcome by the many schools, hospitals and shopping malls that he visits. Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at the Cell C NMB Sevens tournament is definitely one of Bokkie’s favourite places. His antics and enthusiasm are well received by the spectators and players alike. His very high energy levels and his ability to interact with the crowds are loved by all players and fans at the tournament. The Blitzbokke enjoy Bokkie’s involvement in the tournament and a lot of fun is had by all.

Bokkie
Bokkie supports both current and former Springboks so it is only fitting that he be a part of the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Telethon. He keeps the spirits of the Springboks high as they ask people for pledges for this very worthy cause and he encourages the viewers at home to give generously.

Bokkie visits hospitals
Bokkie brought smiles to the faces of many sick children this year as he visited them in hospitals around the country. He gave these young patients special Bokkie goodies and spent time interacting with them and their families. The nursing staff love him just as much and always invite Bokkie back before he has even left the building.

Fun runswith
Bokkie
Bokkie encourages all of us to keep fit and take part in physical activity and he certainly leads by example. He saw the thousands of children off in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Junior cycle tour and ran fun runs in all parts of the country. It is not uncommon to see him doing sit ups or playing a game of Tag Rugby® with a group of children.

School visits remain one of the most exciting events that Bokkie does and enables us to bring the brand of rugby to all parts of South Africa. We visit schools throughout the year and also target specific areas where Test matches are taking place, in the week before the game, to gain support for the Springboks.
It is heart - warming to witness one thousand pupils squash into a stuffy hall just to see Bokkie and then to hear them sing with gratitude. We were fortunate to have Kyle Brown and Branco du Preez visit Jan Kriel School for special needs children and share with the children about commitment and team work. Cecil Afrika accompanied Bokkie back to his old school, Missionvale Primary, and handed over a framed and signed Sevens rugby jersey to the elated principal.
At these assemblies we• Show the Bokkie animated Dvd. • Show the “Our honour. Our Heritage” adverts Dvd.• Give an interactive talk about getting involved in sport and physical activity, healthy eating and being part of a team. We also address the issues of bullying, crime and drugs.• Give away prizes to children when they answer questions correctly.• Every learner and teacher at the school receives a Bokkie promotional item.
A wonderful new addition to our visits is the Grade R educational Bokkie worksheets that we leave as a resource for the teachers, along with a ream of paper for photocopying. This is a SARU initiative in which they promote education via the e-classroom website.

SARUBokkie is very much a part of the SARU family and he managed to get a number of staff members active when he ran the Old Mutual Two Oceans Fun Run with them. He showed off his dance moves at the end of year staff awards but didn’t manage to beat the fleet – footed Andy Colquhoun who walked off with first prize at the dance off. Andy Marinos also received a visit from Bokkie on his special birthday this year.

An integral part of the Springbok experience is also the Springbok Supporters Club. Bokkie entertained the fans at two of their golf days at De Zalze Golf Estate and Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate. He was also present to mingle with the supporters at their Boktown venues in various parts of the country during Test Matches (both home and away games).

Rugby events around the world cannot take place without the support of the sponsors. Bokkie has always been available to assist them as he understands their value and this year was no exception. He was seen at the ABSA KKNK in Oudtshoorn, the Canterbury stand at the Cape Town Tens and the Castle Superfan competition to name just a few.
