Food and Sugar IndustryOptimizing production processes with WK-Pumps.
1867 1985 20091988
More than 20 years have passed since
Herold developed and built the first
helical twisted rotors, a convincing
technology that prompted application
for our first patent.
Herold is proud that, even after 20 years,
not only does the quality of the pumps
remain outstanding, but also our service.
And, in both respects, we continually strive
to be better. Our success is constantly
acknowledged by our customers, including
the global corporation SKF, which named
Herold Supplier of the Year 2006. We are
very proud that our WK-Pumps, built in
Upper Franconia, Germany, are operating
worldwide in the factories of large national
and multinational corporations, as well as
small family run operations, a guarantee
that those corporations have trouble-free
production.
Pump performance of highest quality, inventive
talent and satisfied customers. There are many
things that motivate the staff of Herold.

Requirements of Highest Standard Herold WK-Pumps in the food industry
You eat with your eyes. The whole
nuts that you see when you bite into a
chocolate are primarily a result of the
gentle positive displacement of media,
a patented principal of the WK-Pumps.
Gentle positive displacement of media is
but one of the many demands on pump
processes used in the food industry.
Another important factor is the demand
for a hygenic environment through which
the media passes. All parts of the WK-
Pumps that touch the media are made
of metal alloys of the highest standard,
preventing metal bits from breaking off into
the media. The hygenic operation of our
pump is remarkable, and ensures purity of
media. No risk for contamination. In 2006,
the American Standard Association issued
a 3A Certificate for Herold WK-Pumps.
The food industry especially demands very
high standards - one more reason to focus
on quality.

Herold WK-PumpsAn innovative idea that is widely accepted
Due to its outstanding technology the
WK-Pumps show considerable advan-
tages in food pumping applications
compared to other pumps on the
market. Ordinary positive displacement
pumps have “portion-wise” pump action
at the suction and discharge end. The
two counter-turning rotors however are
characterized by a smooth continuous
flow.
This results in the lowest pulsation rate
worldwide. The gentle way of transporting
a medium is ideal for its homogeneity. The
exceptionally quite run guarantees a long
service life of pumps, drive units, valves
slide valves and seals. Therefore in most
cases the installation of compensation
joints can be omitted. As the revolving
rotors do not touch each other or the
pump housing and as both having a high
degree of hardness no foreign matter gets
into the medium and impurifies it.
Due to its outstanding technology the Herold WK-Pumps
show considerable advantages in food pumping applica-
tions compared to other pumps on the market.
due to rotation of the
helical twisted rotors
a vacuum is created,
which draws liquids into
the pumping chamber
by further rotation the
liquids are locked in
between the rotors and
the rotor housing
due to the by 90°
twisted rotors the liquids
are transported without
interruption
and discharged with

Salient Details Technical features and seal design of Herold WK-Pumps
· Running characteristics: worldwide lowest pulsation rate
· Economy: lowest energy consumption
· Dry run stability: quench liquid cools seal system
· Treating medium with care: even top quality without trituration
· Durability: extraordinary lifetime and process safety
· Purity: hermetically sealed, easy CIP process, easy maintenance
· Performance: higher efficiency due to our dynamically shaped pumphousing
· Field of application: from low to high viscosity, abrasive or sheer-sensitive
media and fluids with solid particles.
· Flexibility: option of switching pumping direction
The worldwide lowest pulsation rate is only
one of many outstanding properties of the
innovation technology of Herold WK-Pumps.
Twisted sinusoidal shaped rotors
In comparison to ordinary Roots pumps
the rotors of the Herold WK-pumps are
twisted by 90°. Its special, optimized
sinusoidal design implements an increased
opening area on the same rotation angle,
a very medium-sensitive pumping action
and a reduced velocity of flow. The sealing
lines of the suction and discharge area of
the pump housing match the sinusoidal
and cosinusoidal rotor configuration.
This prevents turbu lence. Due to the
aerodynamically shaped suction inlet and
discharge outlet the risk of cavitation is
highly reduced.
Seals are selected and
adapted to each individual
pumping process:
· atmospheric separation
· cartridge type mechanical seal
· can run in both directions
· pressure springs not in contact
with medium
· O-rings with FDA certificate
are selected for each specific
medium
· Highly resistant materials of the
sealing faces are based on the
latest scientific knowledge
· Quench system for cooling and
lubrication

Route to Success Quality from one source
We know we have reached our goal when our custo-
mers express their enthusiasm about and appreciation
for the WK-Pumps by recommending Herold to other
businesses.
We have achieved this goal by offering
an outstanding product completely
designed, created and assembled in
one place by one manufacturer, from
the initial consultation all the way
through to delivery.
Before each pump leaves our factory, it is
put through rigorous testing. We accept
no compromise with our product quality.
We ensure a high degree of operational
reliability for each WK-Pump.
Our guarantee: If, for any reason, a pump
part requires replacement, or additional
parts or accessories are required, Herold
will provide them, and all of them will be
made by Herold specifically to meet our
customer‘s requirements.
