When Our Hearts Are Wintery Now the Green Blade
Rises ELW 379
Verse 4 - When our
hearts are wintry, grieving,
or in pain, your touch can
call us back to life again,
fields of our hearts that
dead and bare have been;
love is come again like wheat arising green.
As I write this, there is still snow out my office
window and today is the second day of spring. I’ll
admit, on a day like today I am feeling discouraged.
It feels like the snow will never melt. It feels like
spring will never really come. It feels like the winter
will never end.
This year all of April falls in the Easter season,
but looking out my window it doesn’t feel like
Easter. Like the coming of spring, the promise of
Easter can feel elusive. Recently, I was among
friends grieving for a young pastor who died.
Before the funeral we prayed together and someone
said, “Lord we’re walking this Lenten road, but
we’re looking for Easter.”
This time of year I am actively looking for spring.
I’m ready for the snow to melt. I’m ready for the
fields to be green. I am longing for winter to be
over. On days when I pray with those who are sick
or lonely or grieving, I’m looking for Easter. I’m
longing for God’s promise that death does not get
the last word. I’m ready to shout, “Alleluia! Christ
is risen. Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!!” I’m ready
to proclaim, “If we have been united with him in a
death like his, we shall certainly be united with him
in a resurrection like his.” But some days my heart
is wintry. Some days it feels like spring and Easter
and resurrection will never come.
The promise holds true though. Even if the
early days of this Easter season are snowy,
winter will not last forever. One day soon, the
fields and the trees will be green again, flowers will
bloom, and spring will be here. One day soon, the
promise of Easter will be fulfilled as Christ calls
us and all those we have loved back to life again...
like wheat arising green.
Blessings
+ Pastor Susan Haukaas

Trinity celebrated March Gladness on March
18. Stories of gladness abound. Come read how
people are glad for what God is doing in their
lives. "joy in the little moments", "when I go to
Grandma and Papa's farm", "my job working with
children,” "strength and courage" and so much
more.
Members also gave more than $11,000 on
March 18 to connect their Gladness with how they
support Trinity's day-to-day ministries. Gifts of $87,
$49, $26, $35 were noted in offerings that were
connected to special anniversaries or other events
in people's lives. Thank you for sharing your
gladness to help Trinity connect people with God
and with each other to share God's good news with all.

CONGREGATIONAL
LENTEN PROJECT Our Lenten Project is complete! I wish there
was a way to know how many sets of hands
played a part in the creation of our Paper Chain
Mosaic. During Lent, in the Gathering Space, a
small table was adorned with a purple cloth. It
was topped with strips of multi-colored paper,
rolls of clear tape and some instructions for
assembling paper chains. Around that table,
gathered tiny, round hands and young nimble
ones. There were mom hands and dad hands,
timid hands and fearless ones. I saw pastor
hands and farmer hands, working hands, retired
hands and even ‘I’ll make the paper chains at
home’ hands. There were steady hands and
shaky ones, hands that have been weathered by
work and time and smooth, fresh hands that
have only begun to be shaped by life. Each set
unique, each set magnificent and each set essential
to work we had set before us. Thank you ALL for
being a part. We are more beautiful when we
come together.
COFFEE CART Each month a different group from Trinity
takes its turn at hosting the Coffee Cart. Trinity's
young people are hosting the Coffee Cart in the
months of March and April. Hosting the cart
requires being at church a bit early (a little
after 9:00a.m.), the making or buying of treats
(6 dozen) and making coffee (provided by the
church) to be served in the Gathering Space
between services on Sundays. Please let me
know when/if you are available to host. Please
know that I am so grateful for all of the ways
that you support Trinity and the youth programs.
Thank You!
Thank You to the families that hosted the cart in March!! For April, I will again be available to help get
things set up and make coffee if you would like
help or if you haven't done it before. Please just
let me ([email protected]) know if you
need a hand in this way. (Two families can sign
up for the same week and share duties) Available
April dates are as follows: 4/15, 4/22 and 4/29.
Thank you!
GOD SQUAD Topic: We will continue to explore the topic of Love.
GOD Squad is High School spiritual development
time that happens in the Youth Room on Sundays
at 6:30 pm. All high schoolers are invited to attend.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of
God.” ~Ephesians 2:8 Grace is a foundational
and distinctive piece of our faith.
We look forward to diving deeply into this
theme with you.
NOTE: No GOD Squad on April 1 or 29
PULSE
Topic for April: Church
Sunday Morning programming for
6th-9th graders.
Sunday mornings 9:30-10:30
in the Youth Room.
This year’s theme, This Changes Everything, is
helping us focus on the gift of GRACE and the
fierce love that God has for each of us.
In October we learned a lot about Martin Luther
and the Protestant Reformation. In November,
we focused on Being Thankful. For December,
our lessons were about the birth of Jesus. In January,
we discussed beginnings. During Lent we talked
about LOVE and focused on the wondrous love of God.
In April, we will discuss church. Is it more than
the building? Why do we come here? Do I have a
role/place at Trinity? Does God require that I go
to church/attend worship?
Let’s explore these questions together.
Note: NO PULSE on Sunday, April 1
CIRCUS The Youth are again working the Shrine Circus.
This year the Circus is on Tuesday, April 10.
They would like us to be at the Civic Center
by 5:00. We will be selling popcorn and toys,
making cotton candy and slushies and really just
helping out in any way that we can. The pay is
$30 per worker, so youth and moms and dads
are welcome to be a part of this fun, easy fundraiser.
Please e-mail me at [email protected] if
your young person and/or your family can help
us out in this way.
