1020 BOOK REVIEWS required care, facility requirements, and indications and contraindications. The technique section provides an in-depth de- scription of patient preparation, instrument insertion, therapeutic maneuvers, training issues, risks, and complications. The final section covers basic diagnostic categories, from neoplastic to in- flammatory disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus. In this section, the author provides useful illustrations and management algorithms for each major disease category. Strengths: The book is well organized, practical, and clearly written. For most practitioners, it will be a self-contained, compre- hensive reference text that covers most, if not all, aspects of lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Deficiencies: In maintaining the practical nature of the book, some of the management discussions, such as for malignant polyps, are underreferenced and oversimplified. In the application section, the relevance of the "author's experience" tables is often inapparent. Recommended Readership: Trainees and clinical practitioners of lower gastroendoscopy, including colorectal surgeons, family prac- titioners, gastroenterologists, and internists. Overall Grading: **** Heidi Nelson, M.D., Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Mayo Clinic Rochester, Rochester, Minnesota BOOKS RECEIVED Williams Hematology: Companion Handbook, 5th ed, edited by William J.
