Since becoming a partnership in 1979, CERVERA and PIOZ have worked to develop new architecture and city planning proposals inspired by an integral understanding of the logical principles of flexibility, adaptability and energy-efficiency that are prevalent in all natural species. In 1985 the Firm started to experiment with complex and dynamic structures resulting in several revolutionary projects. In 1992, CERVERA and PIOZ began their research into biological structures in nature and their application to modern structural engineering and architecture. A direct result of these studies was the discovery of a new concept of structure and construction: Bio-Structure.

For Sordo Madaleno, Mexico is one of the few countries with its own architectural heritage, unlike other places of great influence such as Paris, New York and London, among others, whose global, universal architecture has no expression of a regional culture.“We have a longstanding tradition behind us. We must never lose this tradition; we always have that part of Mexican architecture under our skin,” said Sordo Madaleno, referring to his primary teachers and influences—his father Juan Sordo Madaleno and the architect Luis Barragán.

The business philosophy is to develop architectural projects with an optimal quality of design, environmental friendly and compromised with the surroundings where their work is carried out. They not only aim to blend with the urban web but also to revitalize and recover the place which occasionally shows obvious trace of the damage suffered by the city. The projects proposed by Cadavid Architects emphasize the versatility and ability to adapt to any kind of architectural project: from the large to the small detail, developing above all a conscious execution of every single element included in each project.

The exceptional work of Alonso Balaguer and his colleagues emerges from their reaction to the random excess of form and noise that characterise city life. Their architecture thus aims to transmit coherence and harmony, tranquillity and sensitivity. Projects aim to achieve a finely balanced dynamic energy and display high technical achievement and solutions are found that are both technically and economically viable. The originality of their designs, inspired by the surrounding environment, articulate a relationship between form, space and materials adapted to the locality. This volume offers a detailed presentation of some of their most outstanding work.

New methods, design and production techniques that have been developed by the industry in recent years enable us to design innovative work strategies, which in turn allow us to develop projects with greater complexities. Tools such as CAD-CAM give us comprehensive control of each product prior to its completion, particularly throughout the construction process. ON-A relates to a wide variety of clients, from management and major developers worldwide to individual customers. Each project has a unique design and is non-transferable, giving exclusivity to each client. Each project also demonstrates an understanding of the client’s intangible idea from the very beginning of the management process to the actual formation, digital to physical, of the product.

Tony Owen Partners believes that there is a place for an architecture that is exciting and unique, but that is based on sound commercial principles and realises our clients’ needs; an architecture which is driven by contemporary ideas and which is combined with a proactive and inclusive approach to consultation with authorities. Tony Owen Partners believe in a ‘realisable architecture’ that challenges the norm.Tony Owen Partners focus is on gaining successful approvals on prominent residential and commercial developments. This involves the fusion of commercial interest with stylistic and community issues and through extensive consultation with state and local authorities.‘Time and again really good design has the power to capture people’s imaginations and create a momentum. Strong design gives assurance that there will be a good result.’The city is a laboratory for living. What makes the Urban Realm so interesting, is that it is the intersection between the human, environmental, commercial and cultural needs.

In the eastern Mediterranean, on the west coast of Turkey, facing the Greek islands of Lemos and Patmos, close to Bodrum, the ancient Halicarnassus, atop a headland 450ft above sea level (longitude 27° 24’ 30.63” E; latitude 37° 19’ 14.46” N), a new building is constructed. This book unveils the process of creation of the Kaplankaya Clubhouse, from its initial ideas to the development of construction, a time-less structure, seeking both the essence of abstraction in Modern Architecture confronted with the use of local construction techniques and materials, and its intense relationship with the Mediterranean landscape and light.

In his presentation Ángel Luis Tendero, supported in this amazing media success, intends to think of the current mismatch between society and architecture making a didactic presentation of ideas that all architects handled at some point, in an attempt to transmit them in an arguably simple way, and relying on a massive clear connection method such as comics.
