Patriots of the Week

Thank you to Cindy Peterson for all of the time and hard work she put into theGrandparents / VIP Show. The shows were amazing and enjoyed by all! Weappreciate her dedication to this annual Boon tradition. This is truly a special dayfor all of our students and their VIP's. Boon appreciates you!

Author Visit
Artist and poet, Douglas Florian, will be visiting all students at BoonElementary on Monday, December 11. We are very excited abouthis visit.
Mr. Florian will be available to sign books for students on the day ofhis visit. You can find an extensive list of his books to order on Amazon. Please bringbooks to school by Friday, December 8.
A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for sponsoring his visit.

Kindness and Compassion Club
The KC Club is a service oriented opportunity for our students in 2nd-6th grades. It isone of many ways you can help promote Kindness & Compassion at Boon. KC Clubteaches students positive character traits using the five challenges of Rachel'sChallenge: Positive Influence, Kindness, Acceptance, Dream Big, and Power of One. Itis a service learning group where kids have the opportunity to give back to theircommunity and learn what it means to put others before themselves.
The next meeting will be held on December 5 from 2:55-3:40pm. Students are asked to bring new or gently used child sized clothing in any size.These items will be given to Trusted World to help children in the North Texasarea.
In order for your child to attend the December 5 meeting, a KC Club registration mustbe returned to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, December 4.
Boon Science Fair
The Boon Science Fair is quickly approaching. It will be held onDecember 6-8. Please make note of these important dates:
Wednesday, Dec. 6 - check in and drop off Science Fair projects
Bring project board, notebook, and lab report to check in on Wednesday, from 7:30 AMto 8:00 AM. Kindergarten, first, second, and third grade students will check in theirprojects at the Multipurpose Room. Please use the Multipurpose Room entrance by theLibrary. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will check in their boards at the ScienceLab. Please make sure that your child's project does not contain their name or anyphotos that may make their identity known. In order to help speed the check-inprocess, please have your child put their name, teacher's name, grade level, BoonElementary, and a parent contact number on a sheet of paper or index card, place it inan unsealed and unmarked envelope, and tape the envelope to the back center of theirproject board.

Toys for Tots - Donate by Dec. 6
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for TotsProgram is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October,November and December each year, and distribute those toysas Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in whichthe campaign is conducted.
Donation boxes are located near the front office at Boon Elementary! All toys areappreciated!

AISD Father-Daughter Ball
The 2017 Father-Daughter Ball will be held on December 9.Tickets for both the Twilight and Evening dances of the AllenISD Community Education Father-Daughter Ball are on salenow. Tickets will sell out quickly for these popular events.
Twilight Dance is recommended for girls five years old and younger. The dance runsfrom 5-6:30 pm on Saturday, Dec 9.
The Evening Dance begins at 7:30pm. The Evening Dance is recommended for girls ingrades 1-6.
Tickets are available for $35 per couple for the Twilight Dance and $40 per couple forthe Evening Dance. Additional children are $12 each.

Boon Patriot Press Volunteers
Parent volunteers - both editors and typists - are needed to help support thiswonderful program! Editing provides great one-on-one interaction with students.Typing is very flexible and can be done outside of school hours. If interested,please email Patriot Press Chair, Jacqueline Cole.

Be a 2017-2018 Boonster!
The Boonster program is Boon PTA's "write the check"campaign and is our main fundraising initiative of the year. TheBoonster campaign funds all PTA programs throughout theschool year and also allows the PTA to fund an annual gift toschool that pays for items identified by the CampusImprovement Committee as priority needs. Past gifts have paid for technologyequipment for classrooms, library books, and grade level programs and software.
Please consider making a donation. We also welcome corporate matching gifts andbusiness partnership recognition with local businesses.
There are two ways to donate:

Lost & Found
The lost & found rack is overfilling with unclaimed jackets,water bottles, lunch boxes and more. Please have your studentcheck the lost & found rack if they are missing any items. Anyunclaimed items that do not have names written in them will bedonated to Allen Community Outreach (ACO) on December21.
Please put your child's name or initials inside their coats, sweaters, jackets and anyother outerwear they may bring to school.
Kindergarten CogAT Testing
AISD Gifted and Talented and Assessment Department will be coordinating upcomingKindergarten CogAT testing at your campus. All AISD Kindergarten students will beadministered a CogAT aptitude test during the weeks of November 28 - December 11,2017. Parents can view the informational letter via Skyward & Family Access the weekof November 6 - November 10. This test will be administered in groups at eachcampus.
Attendance Reminders
We want to remind you about attendance and Truancypolicies. We appreciate your efforts to ensure your child is ontime and present each day. Please refer to Family Access to monitor your child'sattendance. You will be able to view your child's absence(s) and whether they havebeen excused and any other changes to attendance.
Please contact the school office or email Cathy Slagle if your child will be absent
or late.Please send a note within 3 school days upon your child's return to school.If your child goes to the doctor at any point during the day, the District requires anote from the doctor upon their return to campus. If a note is not received, theirabsence will be coded as a partial day absence.Partial day absences will be coded in our system when your child has left schoolduring the school day.
The accumulation of Unexcused absences and/or Partial day absences are regarded asTruancy occurrences. Boon is required to file a Truancy Referral when a student hasaccumulated 10 within a 6 month period.
