Japanese Incursion

On Thursday the 14th of March we had a Japanese incursion. The person who came was “Anne Norman Sensai’’. Anne told us about a remarkable Japanese story and a beautiful song called ‘’Kasa Jizo and the Wonderful Hat’’. The story is about spending time with family, maintaining cheerfulness in a difficult situation and a spirt of generosity towards others. Anne picked a few students to participate in the song ‘’Kasa Jizo’’ and other students played some of the delicate instruments from Japan. The student performers practised the song a couple of times and Boston Cormack helped with the slideshow. This was an amazing day for all of the students. We did lots of actions throughout the performance, got to learn about how siblings help each other and we also learnt about different Japanese instruments. We had a spectacular time with Anne Norman and she really inspired all of us. By Boyde B. and Benin A.

NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY

The 2019 Young Leaders Day was held at the Perth Convention Centre on Monday 25th March. On the day there were four speakers, which were Akram Azimi, Jade Slater, Leisel Jones and Matt Cosgrove. Akram does community service work, Jade is a part of the Cotton On Foundation, Leisel was an Olympic swimmer who won gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and Matt Cosgrove is an author and Illustrator.

We were given lots of advice about dreaming big and strategies on how to make our dreams come true. Akram’s main message was to lead by example and to not go down a bad path. Jade’s message was to dream big and to keep on trying which was similar to Leisels’ message which was to believe in yourself. And Matt’s main message was to know your passion and keep on practising. Overall we had a great day and appreciate the opportunity to listen to these great leaders.

YEAR 6 COTTESLOE BEACH

SWIMMING LESSONS

During Week 7 all of the Year 6’s went to Cottesloe Beach for swimming lessons. We left at 12:10pm on the bus and didn’t come back until 3:15pm. We had a great time and beautiful beach weather.

When we arrived at Cottesloe Beach we put our bags down, ate our lunch and then got ready to go into the cold ocean. We had our first lesson which went for 40 minutes, then we had a break then and then went back into the water for another 40 minutes.

All of the Year 6’s participated in the “Flags” game, some of us learnt how to save people in deep water and how to put each other into the recovery position. We all learnt how to be safe in the ocean and we all enjoyed body surfing the waves. There was also a lot of singing songs on the bus trip back to school.

Kidz ’n Sport – 27th

February 2019

We had 20+ Pre-primary and Kindy Dads bring their kids along for an afternoon of sport. What a great way to welcome the newbies to Booragoon. Thanks go to Brodie Dawkins and Steve Scotti for organising the event.

8th March 2019... A big thank you goes out to so many people that made the Campout a success. We had over 250 people attend. The School has also raised $3,500 from the event thanks to some kind sponsorship from Bunnings, Coles and IGA.

The Dads chat about some of the reasons why joining the Fathering Project is the right thing to do. We spoke about why it is so important to get involved in any way we can with our kids and how we all benefit from it.

Our annual Harmony Dress Up day was once again a spectacular display of vibrancy and diversity! This year we encouraged our Booragoon kids to come in a traditional dress from their cultural heritage or dress in orange, the official colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. This colour signifies communication between diverse groups, which encourages freedom of ideas and mutual respect. Our school is very lucky to have a wonderful array of multiculturalism and our dress up day continually promotes our inclusive community and Australian culture. Take a look at some of our students who are very proud to embrace their cultural heritage.
