It can be a journey through bier homelessness and death to enter into our ulmate home, life in God. But, for the disciple of Jesus, these are now superseded by the demands of the Kingdom of God. And for ourselves, our everyday life should be coloured by the view of our final desnaon. APPOINTMENT OF NEW PARISH PRIEST

The Archbishop has appointed Fr Thomas Varkey MCBS as Parish Priest of Booval for a term of six years and this will take effect from 23 September, 2019. Fr Thomas is currently serving as an Associate Pastor in the Southport Parish.

REFLECTION - At the beginning of this Gospel, there is a little phrase that could easily be missed in the rest of the passage. It is 'to heaven'. This is one way of translating a difficult phrase, ‘fulfilment’ that not only refers to Jesus' death and resurrection but includes the culmination of his mission after his ascension in glo-ry. It is in the light of this little phrase that sense is to be made of Jesus' resolute journey to Jerusalem. His final goal gives meaning to all that comes before.

As it should for the three people who would be his disciples. The first man who offers to follow Jesus sounds as though he is keen for the adventure. Discipleship is not that. It can be a journey through bitter homelessness and death to enter into our ultimate home, life in God. The other two would-be disciples are pre-pared to offer their commitment within the religious and social mores of their communities. These mores placed great emphasis on family commitment. But, for the disciple of Jesus, these are now superseded by the demands of the Kingdom of God.

And for ourselves, our everyday life should be coloured by the view of our final destination. This is not meant to drain our lives of savour or meaning but rather to enhance each moment, each relationship with a grace-filled truth: homes, par-ents, family come to their deepest meaning when seen as a gift from God, not as things that distract us or turn us away from our service of God.

CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATE - Most of the scaffolding is now in place around the Church and the pews are slowly being refurbished so you will notice that there are now some missing from the church. Once again we would like to remind you to take extra care when you come to mass. It would be advisable for your safety to come into the Church through the front doors.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION - Each year parishes in the Arch-diocese of Brisbane take up the Peter's Pence collection as a retiring collection. This Collection will be taken up at all Mass-es next weekend 6th/7th July. This annual collection gives Catholics in Australia an opportunity to join in communion with the Catholic faithful throughout the world in support of the charitable works of the Holy See.

WALTZING MATILDAS - Next trip Tuesday 23rd July going to Point Danger for morning tea (whale watching). Visit to shop at Tropical Fruit World and then Mt Warning UKI pub for lunch. Bring water bottles and hats. Confirmations and can-cellations phone Anne Hall 0408 773 734.

A VOCATION VIEW: Are you ready to follow Jesus wherever he goes? Are you ready to answer the call that God has placed in your heart and have the courage to say Yes.

“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an oppor-tunity for the flesh; rather serve one another through love.” (Galatians 5:13)

We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to “live the good life.” But Jesus calls us to a different kind of freedom. St Paul reminds us that Jesus sets us free so that we can serve one another, share our gifts and promote God’s work here on earth to glorify His name and not honor ourselves.

PLENARY COUNCIL 2020: National Theme for Discernment #2

This National Theme for Discernment is inspired by the voices of the People of God who expressed a

desire for individuals and groups within and also be-yond the Church to find a better welcome and be

incorporated more into her life and mission.

How is God calling us to be a Christ-centred Church

that is Inclusive, Participatory and Synodal?

The Booval Catholic Parish acknowledge the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul people, the Traditional Custodians who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years.

ABORIGINAL and TORRES STRAIT ISLAND SUNDAY falls this year on Sunday 7 July 2019 and is a significant celebration in our Church’s calendar. Whilst providing us with an opportunity to acknowledge our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters, the celebration also signifies that we are united as one in God’s love and care. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics number over 130,000 and are a growing demographic in our Church today. We must continue to reach out and provide opportunities where we may be enriched and nourished by their deep spiritu-ality, culture and love for Jesus Christ, by opening the doors to our hearts and our homes. In the Gospel of the day Jesus says “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Just as Jesus did, we must meet people where they are and walk alongside our First Nation’s peoples on their journey to reconciliation and justice. As Catholics we can set an example for the rest of Australia to follow by coming together as equals and friends in our Schools, Parishes and Organisations in the name of Jesus Christ and in the spirit of mutual respect and unity as one people. God bless, Most Rev Columba Macbeth-Green OSPPE Chairman Bishops Commission for Relations with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples Australia Catholic Bishops Conference

ENTRANCE HYMN

Come and Journey with a Saviour

Come and journey with a Saviour Who has called us from our birth, Who has washed us in the waters, And who loved us on the earth.

Come and journey, come and journey With a Saviour who has come. We are all God’s sons and daughters. In the Spirit we are one. In the Spirit we are one.

Come and journey, journey inward, Come and seek him deep within, Where he meets us in our living, In our striving and our sin.

Come and journey, journey onward, All our gifts we now shall bring, To the building of a city That is holy, Christ its king.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERTORY The Summons

Will you come and follow me If I but call your name? Will you go where you don’t know And never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, Will you let my name be known, Will you let my life be grown In you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind If I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind And never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare Should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer pray’r In you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see If I but call your name? Will you set the pris’ners free And never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean And do such as this unseen, And admit to what I mean In you and you in me?

Will you love the ‘you’ you hide If I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside And never be the same? Will you use the faith you’ve found To reshape the world around, Through my sight and touch and sound In you and you in me?

[Instrumental verse]

Lord, your summons echoes true When you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you And never be the same. In your company I’ll go Where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow In you and you in me.

COMMUNION

Lord To Whom Shall We Go

Lord to whom shall we go? You are our Bread, broken and shared. Lord to whom shall we go? Yours are the words of life.

The manna we ate, yet our hunger remained; Our hearts were not satisfied.

O Lord, you feed us with the finest of wheat, our pledge of eternal life.

The bread you give is the living bread, your flesh for the life of the world.

Your word, O Lord, is a lamp for my steps; A light for my path of life.

By Michael Herry © 1993

RECESSIONAL City of God

Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep! A new day is dawning for all those who weep. The people in darkness have seen a great light. The Lord of our longing has conquered the night.

Let us build the city of God. May our tears be turned into dancing! For the Lord, our light and our love, Has turned the night into day!

We are sons of the morning; We are daughters of day. The one who has loved us has brightened our way The Lord of all kindness has called us to be A light for his people to set their hearts free.
