What is the Borderless Workplace?

How can you learn more about what you’ll find in the Borderless Workplace? Click on the “Borderless Workplace e-book” link for insights into how and why the workplace is evolving and advice to help you, your team and your organization overcome any challenges posed by your workplace.

5

How do I view Learning Paths? A Learning Path is a series of presentations, documents, tips, quizzes, interactive learning experiences, videos and more modules grouped around one topic that takes you through three stages of learning: discover, develop and deploy. It’s presented in a more traditional virtual eLearning format rather than by your choosing modules at will. You will discover what you already know about the topic, develop skills to enhance your abilities in this area and learn how to deploy what you’ve learned on the job.

Please note: Nielsen has one Learning Path created for us by the vendor called Virtual Teamwork.

How do I view assets in the Borderless Workplace? There are three ways to view assets in the Borderless Workplace (an asset is a module of learning that can be delivered in one of several ways including a presentation, video, interactive learning experience, document, article, tip, quiz, or audio/visual):

Option 1: Click on the “Resources” button in the top right corner of the Borderless Workplace screen.

Step 1: Click on one of the four headings, Borderless Collaboration, Matrix Working, Digital Fluency, Cultural intelligence, to view the assets in each topic area.

7

Step 2: You can also view assets grouped for individual competencies within each of the four areas. This is a really good way to identify the training you should look at to address the issue you are facing or the area in which you want to develop your skills.

Step 3: You can post comments about each asset or share assets with colleagues using the tools at the bottom of the page.

Option 2: You can view assets by clicking on any of the four orange tiles on the home page: Borderless Collaboration, Matrix Working, Digital Fluency, and Cultural Intelligence.

Option 3: The search function allows you to search for specific assets within the Borderless Workplace by learning type (for example; e-learning module, audio-visual presentation, top tips and more). You can also search for assets based on their duration.

How do I create Learning Collections? You can add any asset within the Borderless Workplace to your own personal Learning Collection. A Learning Collection is a series of assets grouped together but differs from a Learning Path in that you choose the assets. You can select as many assets as you want from any of the four areas, Borderless Collaboration, Matrix Working, Digital Fluency, and Cultural Intelligence, to group into your Learning Collection. To begin, simply click on the “+” sign at the top of the page once you have viewed the asset.

You can then add the asset to an existing collection, or create a new collection using the options at the bottom of the page.

How do I share my Learning Collection? Step 1: Select the Learning Collection you wish to share from the home screen.

Figure 2: The ‘Sharing’ Link. Step 2: Click on the “Sharing” link at the bottom of the page and search for the contact(s) you wish to share the collection with.

Step 3: Drag and drop the names into the space on the right hand side.

Figure 3: The ‘Sharing’ Functionality. Step 4: Click “Next” and type a short message to the contact(s) if you wish. Then click “Confirm share and send”.

Step 5: Once the collection has been shared, you then have the option to create a group for the contact(s) if required. Click the “Create new group” link to do this, otherwise click “Finish”.

What is the Country Navigator™? Country Navigator™ is a powerful e-learning tool that allows users to learn more about over 80 business cultures, helping to ensure outstanding international collaboration and working practices through deeper cross-cultural understanding. This tool is available on the home screen of the Borderless Workplace.

How do I complete my Worldprism profile? Click the Country Navigator™ tile on the home page. This will open Country Navigator™ in a new tab. The prompt to complete your Worldprism profile will be on the left hand side of the screen. There are about 45 questions, which will take about 10-15 minutes to answer. Go with your gut instinct when answering them; don’t think about it too long!

Click on the orange “my profile” button on the Country Navigator homepage to be taken to the profile questions. The profile tool is available in nine languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Mandarin and Japanese. Click on the flag of the country where the language of your choice is spoken, found at the top left of the screen.

8. Nielsen offers other courses on this subject which do I take?

Nielsen has an existing course for associates called Working Across

Boundaries and one for managers called Managing Across Boundaries. They are offered both in a classroom setting and in a facilitator-led webinar online. These have not been updated recently but do provide a good foundation for understanding that there are cultural considerations to be made in working with other countries and learning what communication tools work more effectively than others in given situations. The classroom format is particularly beneficial in affording you opportunities to network with others and create a community-oriented learning experience.

Harvard Mentor Manager offers a Global Collaboration course that goes into more detail on the subject, provides you with helpful tools and tips in building cultural awareness and is in a self-paced eLearning format. Borderless Workplace takes that learning to the next level. Completely self-directed, the program is easy to navigate, gives you the ability to pinpoint exactly what you want to know more about, offers you options on what format you want to use to acquire this knowledge (presentation, video, document, podcast, tip, etc.) and for what period of time (all are short in duration, so you can take one or many modules at once depending on the time you have at the moment). The Country Navigator tool gives you insights into over 80 countries’ business practices and cultural perspectives and offers you the opportunity to learn how to work together more effectively. Shortly, we will be introducing community-oriented experiences in the Borderless Workplace program like webinars and classroom workshops. Already today, however, you can share Borderless Workplace with your colleagues, make comments on what you’ve learned and set up learning collections for yourself and others building a community of shared experiences. Because we want you to have options on what and how you learn, all of these courses on working effectively with colleagues, clients and vendors in other countries are available to you.
