• Describe how to access the Data Download Reports from the BIS
• Review the components of the Data Download Reports
• Demonstrate the functionality of these reports
• Learn how to manipulate the data in order to analyze, save, and print your own queries

Privacy Responsibilities for PHI
• Only download or share data to a secure account/space on a network drive and only if permitted by your own organization’s privacy and security policies
• Do not use any portable storage device unless permitted by your organization’s privacy policies (and never use an unencrypted portable device, USB key, etc.)
• Do not print patient-level-data with identifiers
• Never use BIS data for anything other than its intended purpose

What is a Data Download ?
• Exported data for a selected time frame on multiple patients

WHAT are they?
a spreadsheet view of every data element for each patient for a particular encounter
WHY use them?
if you need information that is not available in one of the standard reports, you may be able to generate it by exporting this list to Excel and applying filters to do your own specific query

Creating a Query
• The Profile Birth – Birth Mother Report Rate of pain management among women who had a vaginal birth. Is a standard report that does not sort by parity or type of labour
• Key indicator – Maternal Summary Pain Management during Labour. Is a standard report that does not sort by parity or type of labour
• When expanding your query use the encounter reports or experience list

Key Points!
• Export to Excel
• Highlight or document the column you are filtering
• Document your numerator/denominator – they change as you filter
• Percentage calculation:
Numerator ÷ denominator x 100 = %
