Rest: Artists Specializing in Ornithology

Saturday, June 23–Sunday, July 17

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 23 | 2–4 p.m.

This summer, join us for an exhibit of artists who portray birds

graphs on fabric, three-dimensional installation, and traditional oil

and acrylic on canvas.

Big City, Big Trees: Gentle Giants of the

Urban Landscape

Saturday, July 7–Sunday, August 26

Escape the city summer heat and come enjoy the cool shade of

the amazing trees of BBG. This July and August, the Garden will

highlight some of our most notable trees. There will also be spe-

cial programs, activities, and tours planned to increase your

knowledge and appreciation of these "gentle giants."

Trees: Myths, Monsters & Manipula-

tions—The Photographic work of Beth

Lilly

Saturday, July 28–Sunday, September 9

Opening Artist Talk & Gallery Tour: Saturday,

July 28 | 2–4 p.m.

In conjunction with BBG's Big City, Big Trees event this

summer, the Steinhardt Conservatory Gallery will host the

work of Atlanta-based photographer Beth Lilly. The artist

will exhibit groups of work in which she examines the

beautiful resiliency of trees in one series and uses digital

manipulation to showcase the natural patterns of trees in

another. All of Lilly's photographs are beautifully printed

large scale on Thai mulberry and rag paper.

Abstracting from Nature: Theory and

Practice

Abstraction, seen through the processes of some of our

best-known painters, may indicate an unconscious knowl-

edge of beauty, infused through nature and present in the

austere application of color, line, form, and texture. Spe-

cific painting and drawing exercises, lectures, and obser-

vations from BBG gardens will articulate nature as a

source of inspiration for this class.
