Capt E F Spears DeadCapt E K Spears one of Paris
most prominent and highly esteemedcitizens died at his home on Highstreet Thursday morning at 6 oclockof heart trouble
In the passing away of Capt Spearsa devoted husband a loving father anhonored business man a brave soldiera true and loyal friend has been removed from our midst
Capt Spears was born in Paris in1810 and was the third son of AbramSpears and Rebecca Ford At the ageof thirteen he began to do for himselfbeing early in life trained to providefor his own necessities and after meeting all of the obligations of life like atrue man he dies a wealthy man leav

At the outbreak of the war heespoused the cause of the South andvolunteered his services in he SecondKentucky Infantry as private he washowever soon after elected First Lieutenant in Company G know in history as the Orphan Brigade andfor effective service rendered he waspromoted to a Captaincy and bravelyled his company until the close of thewar During this time he participatedin all the heavy battles in which hiscommand was engaged except ShilohHe was three times wounded and oncetaken prisoner yet through all he ac
himself as a true and gallantsoldier

Spears Clay which lastednine years when the firm dissolvedCapt Spears then purchased the millsite on Stoner now know as SpearsMill which he conducted until he moved to Paris in about 1886
In coming to Paris he purchased thecoal grain and seed business of his
brother Mr Wm Spears andfor a number of years the firm namewas Spears Stuart until the firmdissolved and Capt Spears then tookhis two sons Woodford and Catesbyinto the business with him
In 1866 he married Miss Sallie Woodfoid eldest daughter of the late JohnT ord To t em were born fivechildren Miss Mary John WoodfordMiss Lizzie Catesby WoodfordKeith Young Spears who with theirmother survive
Capt Spears was a consistentof the Second Presbyterian church
for years and for a number of yearshas held the office of Elder He willho missed by his church
The funeral services will be heldatthe residence on Saturday morning at10 oclock conducted by Rev Dr EH Rutherford
