PADDOCK 2 PLATE EVENT
P R I N C I P A L ’ S M E S S A G E
The majority of our students respond posi vely to the opportuni es offered by our teachers and benefit from our posi ve school culture, living up to the values of public educa on by showing our PBL values of respect, responsibility, resilience and teamwork. Some of our students need more support than others. Bowraville Central School has a long tradi on of funding and suppor ng these students using the addi onal funds we receive. The challenge is to provide this support whilst also ‘raising the bar’ in terms of high expecta ons and growth. In 2019 our addi onal funding will be focussed on this theme which may mean that funding previously spent on programs to support behaviour and lack of achievement will be redirected towards those programs and ini a ves focused on high achievement and success. The Department of Educa on has clearly defined policy and processes around the management of student behaviour. We will use DoE code of behaviour, including suspensions for con nued disobedience and disrup ng the learning environment of others or an ‐social behaviour which damages the reputa on of the school. We aim to work with parents to provide strong guidance for our young people so that they may learn from mistakes and gain the support they need to move on posi vely from nega ve situa ons. We involve local Police when needed and liaise with key support agencies including the Local Health District and Headspace when young people are needing interagency support or interven on. We ask parents to assist their children to work within boundaries at home rela ng to following direc on from authority, appropriate use of mobile phones, wearing school uniform and a ending school each day. Shared high expecta ons at home and school benefit young people and assist them to succeed in forming posi ve rela onships, behaving safely and achieving their goals. Strategic Plan 2018‐2022 The NSW Department of Educa on released the five year Strategic Plan with the vision ‘To be Australia’s best educa on system and one of the best in the world’. The plan includes 10 goals. Each fortnight I have been discussing one of the goals and how it related to Bowraville Central School. This week I will unpack with Goal 6 ‘All young people finish school well prepared for higher educa on, training and work’. This seems fitting given we have farewelled our Year 12 students. At Bowraville Central school we have extensive programs to support students to, within and from schooling. Our Year 9 students have been working towards achievement in units of competency within the Foundation Skills for Work course this year learning about careers, the process of gaining employment and budgeting. We are proud that our students are well prepared for life post school whether that be in further study or employment. Combined Schools Fete The Bowraville Central School P&C are busy organising the inaugural Combined Schools Fete to be held at Bowraville Central School on the evening of 15th December culmina ng in Carols by Candlelight and the religh ng of the Christmas tree. Hope to see you all there on the night, I am sure there will be lots of Christmas stocking fillers available at the stalls as well as bouncy castles and a visit from Santa. Best Regards, Dave Taylor
