Essential oils are divided into top, middle, and base notes, though many fit in more than one category.
By combining them, you create a synergistic effect where the base and middle notes combine with the
top notes and help them retain their potency over time. For example, if you scent soap with lemon, the
lemon will fade within weeks. But if you combine lemon with tea tree, you will be able to smell both
scents for more than a year!
Example of top notes that should be combined with middle and base notes: lemon, lime, orange,
