Five use cases measuring different transactions per second throughput (1,000, 1,500, 2,500, 3,000 and 4,000 TPS) were tested to examine CPU database usage

Load generator on x86 drove SmartVista front-end (SVFE) workload to database installed on LinuxONE III LT1 using

A 3,800 transactions per second throughput use case was tested to examine CPU database usage

Load generator on x86 drove SmartVista front-end (SVFE) workload to database installed on x86 servers using• 120 2.8 GHz Ivy Bridge x86 cores• 3,000 GB RAM• Bare metal RHEL 7• 1TB Flash• No x86 virtualization

x86 testing was performed in a BPC vendor lab

1 A five-year cost model for a 3,800 TPC BPC SmartVista use case shows that running the solution's database on IBM LinuxONE III LT2 is 54% lower than the compared x86 database environment. An IBM IT Economics five-year cost model was used to examine LinuxONE and x86 hardware, software, floor space, energy, networking and disaster recovery costs for the database of a BPC SmartVista use case. A client use case based on database transaction throughput requirements, measured in transactions per second (TPS), was analyzed using a LinuxONE III LT1 server with 16 LinuxONE cores versus 120 Ivy Bridge x86 cores. LinuxONE and x86 TPS sizing requirements used in the cost model were extrapolated for a 3,800 TPS use case on LinuxONE III LT2 and Skylake servers based on results obtained under IBM and BPC laboratory conditions on LinuxONE III LT1 and Ivy Bridge, not in an actual customer environment. Results will vary. Both cost models included U.S. pricing for Linux OS with a 55% discount, a relational database and management tools with a 50% discount, and disaster recovery support. An additional 100% of production capacity was projected for a remote site for disaster recovery. DR costs for x86 replicate production hardware and software costs. LinuxONE DR costs utilize CBU hardware pricing and include one core of software charges. LinuxONE pricing is based on U.S. prices as of April 2021 and x86 hardware pricing is based on IBM analysis of U.S. prices as of April 2021 from IDC. Floor space, networking and energy costs are based on data from IBM IT Economics assessments for clients.
