JAIPUR LITERATURE FESTIVAL Annual Jaipur Literature Festival at Boulder – JLF @ Boulder – takes place September 15- 17, 2017 at the Main Boulder Public Library.

Rich with words and ideas, ZEE Entertainment, Boulder Library Foundation and the City of Boulder invite participants to join together to JLF @ Boulder in examining the depth and breadth of the human experience through the reflections and imaginations of more than 70 distinguished contemporary authors and speakers from around the world. Featuring Authors: Christina Lamb, Akhil Sharma, Larry Pressler, Shashi Tharoor.

CHILDREN & FAMILY GO CLUB @ MAIN Sundays, 2–5:30 p.m., Children’s Story SpaceLearn to play the ancient and mysterious board game known as Go. Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5+.

August 5–September 10, Canyon Gallery This open call art show, presented by Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP), celebrates the 50th anniversary of Boulder residents’ passage of America’s first dedicated open space sales tax, which has helped the city to acquire and

protect more than 45,000 acres of open space. An immersive art installation designed by Studio TJOA will highlight artworks submitted by community members.

OPEN STUDIOS @ MAIN

September 26–October 23, Canyon Gallery The Open Studios Tour Preview Exhibit is a show featuring one piece of art from each of the participating artists in the annual Tour. The Preview Exhibit will include painting, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, woodworking, encaustic, printmaking and more! The public is invited to visit the gallery to explore local art and map out their route during the tour, which takes place October 7–8 and 14–15 in and around the city of Boulder.

IKEBANA @ MAIN

October 28 & 29, Canyon Gallery The Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America presents their annual showcase of ikebana flower arrangements. Artists will be setting up on Friday, October 27 and the public is invited to watch or try their hand at the Japanese art of flower arrangement. When you are done you can take your flowers home with you. Demos will also take place in the Canyon Theater on Sunday, October 29 from 1–3pm. Find out about the history of Ikebana and how you can get involved in Boulder.

Alert for all filmmakers–the library has facility and software to convert your digital motion picture files to DCP format, so you are festival ready. This monthly workshop includes time for creating DCP files and screening your short full-size in the Canyon Theater, as well as access to 8 & 16 mm projectors, editors and splicers.

Join the Rebellion! Materials and equipment are provided for the beginner level project of the month. Patrons are also welcome to bring an article of clothing in need of mending or upcycling to the program. Ages 10+.

See the makerspace in action and use BLDG 61 computers for design work as well as sewing machines, vinyl cutter and more per availability and staff permission. Drop off and pick up 3D prints during this time as well. All ages welcome.

Work one-on-one with staff to make your ideas come to life using our laser cutter. All patrons interested in accessing this machine are required to attend a Tool Orientation prior to use. Ages 14+.

Learn about native bees and honey bees and how they nest, followed by building and drilling your very own native bee house to support solitary nesting bees. Presented by local BeeChica, Tracy Bellehumeur. Ages 14+.

*LASER CUTTING TOOL ORIENTATION Saturdays, September 23, October 7 & October 28, 1–2:30 p.m.Gain access to the BLDG 61 laser cutters after attending this mandatory safety training and start working on your own custom projects. Ages 14+.

COSTUME HACK-A-THON Friday, October 21, 1–5 p.m. Join us at BLDG 61 to work on your Halloween costumes and get geared up for trick or treating! Access to sewing machines, laser cutters (small jobs, through staff), vinyl cutter, craft supplies, glue guns, soldering equipment, and more. We encourage all attendees to bring supplies specific to your costume. BLDG 61 will provided recycled materials for costume hacks and offer some (hopefully) helpful advice.

BLDG 61 is an all-ages public workshop located in the 1961 portion of the Main Library that is dedicated to hands-on learning and cultivating valuable experiences in the community through making. Materials and equipment are provided at no cost for all programs.
