EARTH MONTHApril is Earth Month, and a variety of area events are planned to encourage the community to reflect and focus on climate action.In addition to Earth Month, the city is coordinating other programs and events throughout the rest of the year to focus on the significant role ecosystems (forests, streams, wildlife habitats, agricultural and urban areas, and more!) can play in addressing and responding to climate change. A better understanding of these connected systems can help the community meet its Climate Commitment goals.

FACING ROCKY FLATS @ MAIN April 28–June 10, Canyon GalleryThe former Rocky Flats nuclear weapons site is slated to open as a national wildlife refuge in the summer of 2018. Preceding the planned opening, this group exhibition looks at the past, present, and future of this contentious site.

Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5+.

Sunday, April 15, 2 p.m., Canyon TheaterDavid Wiesner brings his trademark artistry and rich imagination to the iconic American game of baseball. I Got It! reveals the extraordinary within the ordinary, taking readers on an amazing journey in a few seconds on a baseball field.

Author Bio: David Wiesner is internationally renowned for his visual storytelling and has won the Caldecott Medal three times—for Tuesday, The Three Pigs, and Flotsam—the second person in history to do so. He is also the recipient of three Caldecott Honors, for Free Fall, Sector 7, and Mr. Wuffles.

The International Film Series presents two nights of director Alexander Cox discussing his book “I am not a Number: Decoding The Prisoner” about Patrick MaGoohan’s 1960s TV show.

Closely following the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, brilliant unorthodox scientist rejects the being he created, who escapes and swears revenge. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me | Friday, April 13, 7 p.m. (135 min.)Directed by David Lynch, featuring Sheryl Lee, Kyle MacLachlan, David Bowie (USA, France-1992). In this film maudit prequel to the TV series Twin Peaks (1990-91) vindicated by the new TV series Twin Peaks: The Return. The last seven days of the life of Laura Palmer, played by Boulder-raised Sheryl Lee (Fairview High School 1985).

EXHIBITIONSPINK PROGRESSION @ MAIN

February 16–March 24 On January 21, 2017 history was made when over two million people joined the historic, global women marches. During the marches, pink created a strong visual statement representing unity and empowerment. Inspired by the marches, this exhibition highlights the work of over thirty local artists who will use the color pink as a unifying element. Pink Progression will have a simultaneous exhibit at the Denver Public Library from March 2nd through June 29th, 2018. In this two-hour class, students will learn how to access their favorite books, magazines or movies from anywhere with internet access or directly from the comfort of their home for free. SEED SWAP Saturday, March 10, 2–4 p.m.Come trade or share your extra vegetable and flower seeds, or just bring your curiosity! Gardening and native plant experts will be available to answer questions, help with garden planning, and demo seed-starting techniques. Due to state regulations, only homegrown seeds and unopened packages of commercially produced seed can be swapped. Be part of Yarn-fiti – a community yarn installation in the Canyon Gallery this fall. BLDG 61 is an all-ages public workshop located in the 1961 portion of the Main Library that is dedicated to hands-on learning and cultivating valuable experiences in the community through making. Materials and equipment are provided at no cost for all programs.
