Neurosky Mindwave mobile

Mindwave Mobile headset is a bluetooth EEG device.By a forehead sensor and a ear-clip sensor, it measures the electric current produced by the brain. The signal is amplified and transformed to givethree meters:-meditation level-attention level-blink strenght

What I discovered playing with these games

-trying to make your way out of a labyrinth repeating multiplication tables, feels a bit unnatural

-every time I try to meditate I fall asleep! (and miss the nice graphics)

- What’s the point to be a jedi if you can’t challenge your friends?

What I discovered using research toolsOur brain is always talking. We can’t hear it but it has a lot to say. In a language funny to listen even if you don’t understand.

Let’s turn tables

What if, instead of trying to control things, we just laid back, relax and listen, letting our brain amaze us?

Brain Hide & SeekHas it ever happened to you? You are playing hide and seek and you just can’t hold your giggles? With Brain Hide & Seek you’d better pay attention to what you are thinking as well!

how it works

Each player is wearing a Mindwave headset. Then he hides and tries to become invisible. How? Relaxing and emptying the mind. If he gets too excited his phone could light up and make noises to immediately give away his position to the other players. Different levels of anxiety produce a variety of sounds raising in volume. But there’s more than that! Could you sneak out of your hiding place like a ninja searching for others in order to scare them?Every time a player gets really scared the phone screams and he loses a life. There will be only one! The one who can stay cool while scaring his friends to death.

How it does it?

In a first phase I collected data about fear , anxiety and scares, recording people reaction to scary videos, sudden noises and so on. Analyzing both attention and meditation meters is possible to tell the level of anxiety and the reaction to a Boo! The ultimate scare.

Final considerations

- playing together again was fun (the original “social game”)-excitement,surprise,fear... What’s what? You must define the context strictly to avoid false positives-it’s just the beginning: the measurement can be more precise using power bands-reading others mind is a slippery sod. It is acceptable and fun if the context is a game.

Future developments

-a real multiplayer game-a better fear reading-training tool
