Lowell National Historical Park

On the first day, we had a tour about Lowell’s history. We learned about Lowell’s industrialization boom and its textile mills and factories.

• The purpose of this project was to remove all of these vegetation and start planting grass. It was tough work.

• Our supervisor, Estefany, taught us how to classify soil types and what we need to know about soil before planting.

• We learned that soil texture depends on its composition and the relative portions of clay, sand, and silt.

Process and Tools• Our specialist for the

week, Billy, used the Bobcat to help us remove the rest of the vegetation off the beds. He also used it to dump the loam onto the ground so we could level out the dirt ground.

• This is a rolling tamper that we used to tamp down the dirt after the loam was leveled out. We also used other tools including metal, spring and grading rakes, shovels, and pick-matic.

• After everything is leveled out, the loam is being tamped down, and the dirt was roughened, we started to plant grass seeds by spreading it on the ground. Then finally, we tamp it
