Each time I visit Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, I feel like a kid in a candy store, as the expansive mall always has something new to offer. Stepping into its humungous interiors is an invitation to get lost —

metaphorically, as you tend to dive into one outlet after another. A few days ago — even though I knew I was bound to return when my kids

visited the nest during their looming-large holidays — I trooped out and found it infused in the spirit and the colours of the festive season. Excited chatter filled the air — as countless people found their way to their favourite outlets, leading me to wonder yet again how wonderful retail therapy truly is for one’s soul! More so in Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, whose central location in Mumbai makes it easily accessible for residents from different parts of the city.

Knowing that Gen Next would want to explore this new arrival, my feet led me to the newly minted H&M store there. Other recent attractions that grabbed my eye were the spaces of global players like Cole Haan, Johnston & Murphy, and Heatwave. I was glad I had my walking shoes on as I strolled leisurely through its expanse making mental notes of what my young adults would like. It is the many brands like H&M, Diesel, Red Fleece — Brooks Brothers and more that make Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla even more attractive to style-wise shoppers.

Interestingly, apart from the ‘window dressing’ that changes with every new collection, the mall seems to exude a subtly different feel at intervals. Keeping in mind the fact that families — with members of different ages — spend hours in its welcoming ambience, it offers comfortable seating options on every floor, in strategic locations.

What you seek may not just be a fantastic buy, but could also be some great entertainment. Take your pick from a host of movies or let your kids spend time at the gaming zone. Hours will pass like fleeting seconds! And if your palate craves fulfilment, you will be spoilt for choice. The plethora of eateries here will satisfy the foodie in you completely.

The season of celebration beckons. It is time to step out…and fix a date with this mall to add something special to the months ahead.

Digital spaces have changed the world and our lifestyle. Gett ing everything at your doorstep with the click of a butt on is extremely convenient, but nothing beats the pleasure of stepping out to shop, says SANTOSHI SHETTY

One of the biggest perks of being a blogger is that I don’t have to feel too guilty about shopping as it is an integral part

of my work life. Today is also one of those many days when I’ve decided to pamper myself by lett ing the shopaholic in me take over.

What is the list I have created in my mind for the day? Well, as a basic-wear enthusiast, my life is an ongoing hunt to fi nd simple pieces which can be worn in multiple ways. But, no more do we only think of that simple round-neck pack-of-three T-shirts when we think ‘basic’. For you can get them in so many fresh styles, variety of colours and with a number of embellishments.

So, here I am at Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, walking towards H&M, because nothing could be bett er than starting your shopping spree at the city’s newest fashion haunt. Bodysuits are my current obsession, but as soon as I enter the store I get distracted by a bomber jacket. These are fast gaining in popularity and I fi nd it diffi cult to keep my hands off these off erings. The jackets are no longer made only in leather or thick cumbersome fabrics, so it is possible for people in cities like Mumbai (with a tropical climate) to wear them. I just love this one blush pink jacket which is made from a sleek fabric that lends

a completely diff erent look to this style. H&M sure does have a fresh and young collection, ranging from dresses and active-wear to accessories and inner-wear. A self-confessed fi tness freak, I’m immediately drawn towards the active-wear collection on display and pick up some quirky pieces. Today these styles are not confi ned to when you’re working out; you can rock the scene in these any time of the day. I then fi nd myself drawn to the many slogan tees that they have on off er.

High-street brands like Zara, Steve Madden, Diesel, Tommy Hilfi ger and Aldo are among those that I have in mind for today’s day at the mall. The amazing collection of boots at Zara makes me go weak in the knees. Diesel has the coolest range of sunglasses, and, since my dilemma the bold white or of choosing either quirky denim ones remains unresolved, I treat myself to both! Finally, amidst all the splurging and pampering, I stop to sip on a cup of coff ee at my all-time favourite cafe — Starbucks.

My latt e in tow, I walk towards Only, being totally in awe of the Mickey Mouse collection. From printed tees to fancy tracks, this collection has something for every fan of the Disney favourite. These pieces perfectly capture the original charm and wonder of the iconic character, while adding style to your wardrobe.

at clothes and shoes — how can you forget make-up? The MAC Cosmetics store has been my go-to destination for make-up essentials for a while now and I am absolutely crushing on their matte lip shades. This is a brand I have grown to trust. So I treat myself to some exciting products. With the amount of make-up we use on a daily basis, one cannot afford to ignore their skincare regime for deep nourishment. Innisfree, another fairly new brand at the mall, is one that I buy from often. Since it’s the only outlet in Mumbai, I too have an excuse to make frequent stopovers at

Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. I walk into the store and am guided by a kind attendant who helps me select products meant for my skin type.

To conclude my day, which has turned out to be rather busy, I decide to relax and have a fine meal at Craft Deli Bistro Bar. The beautiful ambience, cosy space and widespread menu at this deli and bistro draw my attention. As an architect, good food is usually not the only thing that appeals to me. The space too needs to be equally pleasing to my eyes.

Just before leaving I visit Dublin Square — a space that I often come to for fun activities like

I get attracted to a pair of tan wedges (something I have been keeping an eye out for) as they go with everything, and instantly decide to grab them. I then go over to their selection of bags and look closely at a

Zumba and music gigs. It is amazing how mall culture has evolved and is not only confined to shopping but encompasses a range of other activities as well. One can literally spend hours at the mall without getting bored and yet keep coming back, like Oliver Twist, for more.
