About this Series:

Everyone, even the biggest and strongest person in the world, gets scared sometimes. If we’re

going to get scared, what can we do about it? The good news is, Jesus knows what it’s like to be

scared. He went through sadness, hurts, and even huge storms. With His help, every one of us can be brave.

Memory Verse:

Psalm 138:3- When I called out to you, you answered me. You made me strong and brave.

Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued)

Lesson 1: Why we’re brave

Being brave doesn’t mean not being afraid. It means making the right choice, even when you feel

afraid. The greatest example of this is Jesus! God wanted him to do something super scary, and

Jesus chose to be brave. The great news is, because of what Jesus did, we can be brave, too!

Lesson 2: Facing my fear

Jesus’ disciples were feeling afraid. They were trapped in a boat, on the sea, in the middle of a

huge storm. As lightning flashed and thunder rolled, they saw Jesus. He was sleeping! When they

woke him up, Jesus showed them why he wasn’t afraid: he was in control, even in a huge storm!

We can be brave, because Jesus is still in control today.

Lesson 3: Jesus’ love

Jesus didn’t act like everyone else. He went places and talked with people that others would stay

away from. Even when people made fun of him, or said bad things about him, Jesus did his best to

be a friend to everyone. He wanted them to know that he loved every person on earth. Knowing

how much Jesus loves you is a great reason to be brave!

Lesson 4: What if I fail?

It’s not fun to make a mistake. You might feel sad, or like you want to give up. How does Jesus feel

when you make a mistake? You might be surprised. This week, we’ll see how Jesus’ love can help

us be brave enough to try again, even when we fail.

Lesson 5: When I feel sad

What do we do when sad things happen? When someone gets sick, or even dies? This week, we’ll

hear what Jesus did when one of his friends got sick, and think about how we can be brave, even

when we feel sad.

Opening Song 3:00

Introduction and Rules 2:00 Hello everyone, welcome to Kid-O-Deo! My name is __________! We have a ton of fun stuff to do today, like hear a story, sing, and we even get to jump around and go Kid-O-Whampus! Before we can do all that, though, there are three things you can do to make sure everyone can listen and have fun. Those things are our three Kid-O-Deo rules!

Rule #1: When I’m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let’s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let’s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place!

Great job, Kid-Os! There’s one more super important thing I want you to know.

Value 1:00 God made you with a super special purpose. He loves you, and wants you to make wise choices, even when it’s tough to do. Can you repeat this after me? I can be, I CAN BE, who God made me to be. WHO GOD MADE ME TO BE.

You really can be who God made you to be! It’s so amazing that God knows us and loves us. He is just the best. That’s what this song is all about, too. Let’s stand and sing together!

Bible Adventure 5:00 I love singing with you! You can sit down, but get ready for an adventure. Everyone feels afraid sometimes. That’s ok, but it’s usually not fun to feel afraid. A lot of people feel afraid of messing up or making mistakes, but God can help us be brave, even when we feel worried or afraid. To help us find out how to face our fears, Rocky is going on an adventure. Let’s see where he is today!

Rocky is exploring in space! That looks awesome, but a little dangerous. The sign he found says it’s time for us to go on an adventure, too. It’s time for our Bible Adventure!

Do This: Show kids the Bible. Kid-Os, I have a super important question for you. Are the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That’s right, these stories actually happened. Today, we get to hear about what Jesus did when one of his friends messed up really badly.

Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair.

This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the

Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let’s get started!

Do This: Have kids help you “turn” the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave.

Peter was afraid. His best friend Jesus had been taken away, and people were making fun of him and hurting him. Peter believed Jesus was God’s son, but couldn’t understand why he was letting people do these mean things. Then, someone asked Peter if he knew Jesus. Peter was scared, so he lied and said he didn’t know Jesus at all, that he wasn’t Jesus’ friend. When Peter realized what he did, he felt really bad.

Those people hurt Jesus so badly that He died, but He was God’s son. He didn’t stay dead, but came back to life! Jesus knew what Peter had done, and could have been mad about it, but He decided not to be.

Jesus forgave Peter for what he did. He gave Peter a mission, to tell people about what Jesus did and how much God loves them. Even though Peter had done something wrong, Jesus still loved him and wanted to be his friend.

When Peter saw how much Jesus loved him, he became very brave. Peter told thousands of people about what Jesus did, and spent his whole life sharing Jesus’ story with everyone he could.

Great job listening, Kid-Os. Jesus loved Peter no matter what, and he loves you just as much. That’s a great reason to be brave. Let’s adventure a little further into space with Rocky, and see what’s next!

It’s time for our memory verse!

Memory Verse 3:00

Do This: Read the verse from the screen.

This is a great verse to remember when you feel afraid. We can call out to God, and ask him for help. God will always listen to us! Even if he doesn’t take away the thing we’re afraid of, God can help us be strong and brave. Let’s practice saying that verse together!

Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your “quiet voices,” then do it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices! Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: Psalm 138:3- When I called out to you (hands cupped around mouth), you answered me (hands cupped around ears). You made me strong (flex arms) and brave (arm/fist across chest).

Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os!

Worship 3:00 Jesus showed us God’s love by giving his life for us and forgiving the wrong things we’ve done, just like he did for Peter. Let’s stand and sing about how amazing Jesus is!

Application 5:00

Do This: Make sure the “Mystery Box” is on stage before the Application begins. You could bring it out now, or leave it on stage the whole time if you think it will get kids interested in what’s inside without distracting them.

I love singing and praising God with you. You can sit back down! Now it’s time… for the mystery box! Inside is something interesting, something unexpected, something mysterious! Let’s find out what it is. Do This: Take a large maze and a marker out of the box. Place the maze on the easel.

This is a maze! I wonder if we can get through it.

Do This: Begin to find your way through the maze, drawing the route with the marker. Go to a dead end, and stop.

This is tough! Now I hit a dead end. I went the wrong way. What should I do, Kid-Os? Well, there are a few things I could do. Tell me if you think these are good choices. Do This: Go and sit on the side of the stage.

I could just give up. Would that be a good choice? NO. No? Would giving up help me finish the maze? NO. I’ll never finish it if I just give up, will I? Oh, but it’s so tough. What if I just skip all the lines? Do This: Draw a line from the dead end to the end of the maze.

There! Did I solve the maze? NO! No, that doesn’t work, that would be cheating, wouldn’t it? Hmm. What if I get angry and crumple up the maze? Do This: Crumple up the maze, and toss it to the side. Did that help me get through the maze? NO! It didn’t help at all, did it? Kid-Os, when we do something wrong, or make a mistake, it usually feels bad. All of us make mistakes, but if we get angry, give up, or try to cheat to fix our mistake, things usually

just get worse. When I made a wrong turn on the maze, what I should have done is just tried going another way.

When we make mistakes, it’s important to make wise choices. Kid-Os, I wish we could all just stop doing wrong things, but that’s not going to happen. Even Peter, Jesus’ best friend did wrong things sometimes. Whether you do something you know is wrong, or you just make a mistake, you have an important choice to make. You know getting angry, giving up, and cheating aren’t right, so what do we do?

One wise choice you can make is asking for help, like this Kid-O is doing! Our grown-ups can help us with a lot of things. Instead of cheating, we can ask someone to help us.

Another wise choice we can make is trying again. When you’re learning to ride a bike, sometimes you fall down. The wise choice is to get back up and try again! Instead of giving up, you can try again after you make a mistake.

If you’re feeling angry, that’s ok! You can feel angry, but hurting other people, yelling, or breaking things isn’t ok. When you feel angry, you can try being quiet for a few minutes until you don’t feel as upset. Those are great ways to make wise choices when something goes wrong, and I know all of you Kid-Os can make those good choices! Remember, no matter what happens, no matter what you have done, Jesus always loves you and wants to be your friend. Nothing can ever change that! Great job listening, Kid-Os. Let’s see where Rocky is on his adventure.

Prayer 2:00 That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down. Since God loves us so much, he loves listening to us, too! You can talk to God anytime, and anywhere, and he’ll hear you. We call talking to God “prayer.” You can pray when you feel afraid, when you feel awesome, and any other time, too! God cares about you all the time. Here in Kid-O-Deo we fold our hands in our laps and close our eyes, to help us only think about the words we are saying to God. If you want, you can repeat the words of this prayer after me. Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to make wise choices. Amen.

I have loved spending time with you, Kid-Os. Now it’s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid-Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity. See you later!
