On 23 April SPC Whyte and SPC Harris participated in a SRP that supported over 75 Soldiers. The mission enhanced the unit readiness for a brigade headquarters stationed in USAG Stuttgart. During the mission, the team helped service members by reviewing their LES through the DJMS system and made them aware of any debts they were receiving. SPC Whyte and SPC Harris delivered exceptional customer service to each service member with their individual financial situations. Since Bravo is deactivating this also gave Delta Detachment the opportunity to observe the SRP process in Stuttgart since they will be taking over the Stuttgart mission. SPC Harris, SPC Johnson, and I had the opportunity to participate in a ceremony in remembrance of the Holocaust, and to make recognition to retired Sgt. 1st Class Paul Parent , a WWII veteran who lives within the community of Ansbach, Germany. During World War II, SFC Parent fought in several campaigns, including the D-Day Invasion at Normandy. The Holocaust was one event that left some type of scar on everyone, some more than others, but I really felt the hurt in some of the people’s eyes as I walked up there to give my presentation. Six Soldiers from within the community (including SPC Harris, SPC Johnson, and I) stood up, one by one, and quoted some stories from different people either during or after the events happened. What we had to say may have sounded simple to some but honestly, I was very nervous walking to the microphone on that stage. Also in remembrance, the six Soldiers lit candles after the end of their speech.

On 30 April 2013, a representative from the Katterbach Community Bank generously took time out of his schedule to come and visit us to discuss their philosophy on customer service. As finance warriors, we deal with customers in a different sense. We may not sell a product, but we still provide a service and people get very emotional when dealing with their pay. It is important to be professional when assisting agitated customers and just in general. The representative provided us with tips for outstanding customer service. A few things to remember when dealing with customers: have manners; listen; take responsibility; be empathetic; be reliable. These are qualities that will help you excel in life as well. All of these qualities will make an outstanding finance Soldier and also a outstanding future NCO. By SPC Johnson

The fact that most of us PCS on or about the time when we finish deactivating was the greatest motivation for us to help each other effectively on deactivation. Recently, we succeeded in clearing out half of our office space, while keeping one side of the hall way that has 5 rooms to help 12 CAB Soldiers that have finance issues. We painted one side of the hallway in one day, so we used some times before we paint to patch cracks and holes, put tapes around doors, and put large white plastic bags on the floor for preparation. Two main painters were using rollers to paint the wall. At first, all painters used roller had problems with the paint that puddle under the roller. However, we solved the problem easily by stroking the roller upward when you begin. The brushes required some more techniques than the rollers since the goal of using a brush is to get as much paint on the corners as possible where rollers are not able to pass through without dribbling all over other walls. Time after time, everybody was getting better and knowledgeable on painting. Our main goal was to deactivate and turn in all the civilian and military equipments and utilities, and our idea was on maintaining the areas where we work on as clean and new as possible until the actual day to clear out. In fact, the painting was a beginning of this thought which we made it to an action.

Area beautification- That was the main focus of USAG Ansbach Spring Cleanup for a whole week in April. I actually looked forward to being a part of it because I love to clean and I also love to do landscaping work. Somehow it calms my nerves. We were afforded the opportunity to be in civilian attire to perform the Spring Clean-Up at Barton Barracks. It was a nice day…not too hot, but the sun was out and there was a good breeze here and there. We teamed up with the Garrison HHD to complete the task. When we were finished for the day outside, we moved to the barracks, where we did a deep clean, from the floor up the walls…almost even the ceiling. BY SPC Griffith
