The Executive Committee has pleasure in presenting the 24th Annual Report along with Audited Accounts of the Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) for the year ending on March 31, 2011. OFFICE OF THE WHEAT PRODUCTS PROMOTION SOCIETY : The Registered office of WPPS continued to be at 8381 Roshanara Road, Delhi. However, the office work continued from the office of M/s Assocom-India Pvt. Ltd. (# 601, 6th Floor, DDA Building, District Centre, Plot No. 4, Laxmi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Delhi - 110 092) who were appointed Secretaries of the WPPS for the year 2011-12. BANKERS : The Bankers of the WPPS continue to be the State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur and Punjab National Bank, Laxmi Nagar which is very close to the Secretariat office and convenient to operate. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS: The Executive Committee had a total of five meetings during financial year 2010-11. Though, three meetings were held between the AGM held on September 26, 2011 and March 31, 2011 which was close of the year. ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR: Release of Proceedings of 5th International Seminar on Wheat & Wheat Products - Towards Millennium Development Goals:
The two day International Wheat Seminar on Wheat & Wheat products Towards Millennium 3
Development Goals was organized on February 19-20, 2010 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat by Wheat Products Promotion Society, Roller Flour Millers Federation of India, Gujarat Roller Flour Millers Association, Society of Indian Bakers, and All India Bread Manufacturers (AIBMA). The organizers have brought out a publication on the Proceedings and Recommendations of the seminar. The Proceedings were released by Shri Siraj Hussain, IAS, Chairman, Food Corporation of India, in presence of Shri B. B. Patnaik, Managing Director, Central Warehousing Corporation, at a function held on April 16, 2010 at India International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
In the Technical Sessions of the International seminar, a number of papers were presented by experts and eminent speakers from various fields related to wheat based industries. Assessments made by studies and research, and pragmatic evaluation of ground realities threw new light on actual situations and what can be done at micro level to push progress. Recommendations emanating there from are of immense importance for obtaining maximum utilization of available wheat for food and nutrition security within the country and the region. These recommendations were circulated to all important stake holders in the Government and institutions working on wheat, soon after the International Seminar. Several comments were received. We are particularly grateful to Dr. V. Prakash, Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore for his response. He has expressed that quality of wheat is the main concern, but issue that assumes greatest importance is provision of facilities for safe long term storage of wheat. This is the matter which must be addressed immediately. Complete presentations and proceedings were put together in this publication, which has been circulated to all those who attended the International seminar, and to other stake holders in the industry. We convey our thanks to co-sponsors, invitees, speakers who readily came forward to contribute in making this International Wheat Seminar a great success. We are grateful to the 4
advertisers who sportingly advertised in the Souvenir. Finally, our personal thanks to the members of the Organizing committee that assisted in successful implementations of this international activity. We thank the Secretariat of ASSOCOM-INDIA for help in compiling and classifying the information. The organizers are convinced that this publication will meet the demand of wide spectrum of those who are concerned with wheat and wheat products based industries in India, keeping in tune with the global developments on safe and nutritious food and assure high value of service to consumers. LAUNCH OF WPPS NEWS LETTER: Keeping in view fast changing business environment for development and growth of Industry and suggestions from our esteemed members, WPPS decided to produce a news letter for disseminating information of its activities, that of other associations who are members, and general information that could be of use. News letter is being distributed not just to our members, but widely circulated to reach all key sections of stake holders in this very important industry. Six or more issues are proposed in a year.
The first of issue of news letter was formally launched on January 12, 2011 in conjunction with Executive Committee of the WPPS. WPPS SUPPORTED 4TH NATIONAL SEMINAR ON BAKING INNOVATIONS, NOVEMBER 21-22, 2011, KOCHI WPPS supported Seminar on 4th National Seminar on Baking Innovation India. The seminar was organized by The Society of Indian Bakers (SIB) in association Bakers Association of Kerala (Bake). 5
The seminar was attended by more than 300 bakers who showed an environment of growth and forward looking approach to meet with innovations and challenges in bakery industries with emergence of the Bake. Shri Tony Chammany, Worshipful Mayor, Municipal Corporation of Cochin inaugurated the seminar; Shri Dominic Presentation, Member of Legislative Assembly, Kerala was the Chief Guest of the Seminar. The key focus was on Innovations and ideas to create new, healthy and affordable products for consumers; policy or process affecting retail baking industries; and Food Safety and Standards, etc. Dr. A. S. Bawa, Director, Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore; Shri L. R. Pat Kandhari, Founder President, Society of Indian Bakers; Shri P. M. Sankaran, President, Bakers Association of Kerala (BAKE); Shri Jai Prakash, Chairman, Organizing Committee; Shri J. N. Kushawaha, President, Society of Indian Bakers and other Eminent Speakers and panelists addressed on latest issues and development in baking industry. Two specific workshops for demonstration of Banana & Dates in cakes, Whole Grain Cake, Eggless Muffins and display of healthy bakery products and Cake Decoration were the key attraction of the seminar. Overall it was a great event attended by almost 400 delegates across the Country. 3RD INTERNATIONAL GROUP MEETING ON WHEAT PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT UNDER CHANGING CLIMATE, FEBRUARY 9-12, 2011 The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS, Dharwad), in collaboration with Directorate of Wheat Research [ICAR, Karnal (Haryana)], CIMMYT, Mexico and PVP&FR ( New Delhi) hosted the 3rd International Group Meeting on Wheat Productivity Enhancement under Changing Climate on February 9-12, 2011. WPPS was one of sponsor of the seminar. Around 350 delegates comprising research workers, planners, administrators, extension functionaries from across India and abroad participated in the three-day meet. UAS vice-chancellor Dr. R. R. Hanchinal said UAS has been considered as a lead centre in wheat research in the country. Dharwad centre is pioneer in 6
dicoccum wheat research and is first in the world to develop semi-dwarf dicoccum wheat varieties. The workshop aimed at discussing trends in production and productivity of new wheat varieties, constraints in wheat production under changing climate and demand of important wheat varieties, value addition of wheat grains and export potential of whe
