Many  firms  have  combined  computa5onal  design  and  building  informa5on  modeling  and  are  delivering  real  work  using  new  tools  and  prac5ces.  In  this  session  we  will  learn  how  two  industry-­‐leading  firms  have  gone  from  experimen5ng  with  computa5onal  design  to  using  it  in  prac5ce  on  real  projects.  Both  firms  are  itera5ng  on  more  design  ideas,  increasing  the  quality  of  work  and  delivering  more  quickly  by  successfully  using  advanced  soCware  tools.  We  will  hear  about  case  studies  from  NBBJ  and  RTKL  and  then  hold  a  Q&A  to  discuss  both  commonali5es  and  differences  in  approach.

How are BIM and parametric tools related? A  Parametric  and  Associa;ve  Model  

While  Revit  undoubtedly  uses  parametrics  for  these  automa5c  revisions,  unlike  fully  fledged  parametric  modelling  soCware  such  as  Pro/ENGINEER,  CATIA,  or  even  Sketchpad,  the  parametric  rela5onships  of  Revit  are  hidden  behind  the  interface.  The  focus  is  on  using  parametric  models  rather  than  crea4ng  them.    

Therefore,  while  the  majority  of  architecture  firms  may  never  use  overtly  parametric  soCware  like  Digital  Project  or  Pro/ENGINEER,  most  –  oCen  without  even  considering  it  –  use  parametric  equa5ons  in  some  capacity  to  model  their  buildings.
