From the Pastor This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King and the end of our liturgical year. We focus on the Kingdom and how we gain entrance by our witnessing the Good News. It is a time to reflect on living the message of Jesus. How do you see yourself right now? Do you pass through the Heavenly Gate or do you see yourself outside waiting to get in? It is your choice. I hope that you choose wisely. This Thursday is Thanksgiving. We stop and give thanks to God

for the blessings that he has given us this year. Why not begin the day with Mass? The Mass is the ultimate thanksgiving prayer. Mass is at 9:00 am this year in the church. If you can, we ask that you bring some food for the poor. That way we share our blessings with others. On behalf of the all the parish staff we wish all a blessed Thanksgiving. Next weekend our liturgical changes take effect. They are slight changes not in Mass times but in the sound of bells, music. and candles. The Mass is our community prayer to the Lord. The Lord deserves the best. Let us give it to Him. Fr. Kevin

After an ElectionGod of all nations,

Father of the human family,we give you thanks

for the freedom we exercise and the many blessings of democracy

we enjoy in these United States of America.

We ask for your protection and guid-ance for all who devote themselves

to the common good, working for justice and peace

at home and around the world. We lift up all our duly elected leaders

and public servants, those who will serve us as president,as legislators and judges, those in the

military and law enforcement.

Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord, with a common purpose, dedication, and commitment

to achieve liberty and justice in the years ahead for all people,

and especially those who aremost vulnerable in our midst.

Pope Francis Proposes Six New BeatitudesPope Francis has offered the Church six additional Be-atitudes to help us live our faith in Jesus Christ. He said: “The beatitudes are in some sense the Christian’s identity card. They identify us as followers of Jesus, called to be blessed, called to confront the troubles and anxieties of our age with the spirit and love of Jesus. They enable us to recognize and respond to new situations with fresh spiritual energy.”

Here are the Beatitudes the Pope offered.“Blessed are those who remain faithful while enduring evils inflicted on them by others, and forgive them from their heart.”“Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalized, and show them their closeness.”“Blessed are those who see God in every person, and strive to make others also dis-cover him.”“Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.”“Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others.”“Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians.”

Outreach Notes

The Year of Mercy in Review As we come to the close of this year of mercy, I want to thank you for an incredible outpouring of your prayers and actions of love and mercy to many in need. You supported: • over 1000 individuals at Thanksgiv-

ing and Christmas• Project Homeless Connect, to pray

for and visit the sick• forgiving someone and working to-

ward reconciliation• donating medical supplies to those

without health insurance by con-tributing diapers to single mothers at Birthright and Anna’s House

• feeding over 2300 hungry individu-als and families through our Christ-mas in July campaign

• praying for those trapped in addic-tion during Recovery month

• building the second floor of a home for Habitat for Humanity

WOW! As God’s mercy to us is nev-erending, so should ours be to others.Pope Francis is encouraging us to con-tinue seeking ways to share mercy and to make it a part of our everyday life. Here are a few simple ways we can do that:M – make time to be present – to God, our loved ones, friends, co-work-ers and to the gift of each new dayE – evangelize – be courageous in sharing God’s truth, hope and uncon-ditional love – as His disciples we are called to be His face to those around usR – reconcile – forgive and stop car-rying grudgesC – contribute – some of your time and your goods to someone in need – we all have an overabundance of both, but do we hoard them for ourselves?Y – yearn – seek to do good and be a light for others.

Happy Thanksgiving

“The sunflowers seemed to go to seed early this year...

No doubt about it. The signs are clear everywhere.

The shadows of life are longer now. Even the grass has seared a bit.

And with the changing of the climate and the dulling of the sun

and the lengthening of the nights, something inside ourselves slows and changes and turns as well.

With the turning of the seasons of our lives,

life takes on a far more precious hue.” The Sacred In-Between by Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B
