24th May 2019
A few words from Mrs Nicholson
Dear Parents,
What a beautiful day to finish our first half of the summer term and let’s hope the sun continues
to shine as we go off on our May half term break. It has been such a short half term that has been
extremely busy and has just flown by!
This week our Pre- Prep children had a wonderful trip to Bromley library to share many books and
listen to some wonderful stories. The feedback on their exceptional behaviour was amazing to
hear. Year 6 children have also had a very busy week after their SATs and enjoyed a Perform
Workshop in school, Water Sports, and of course their finale for this week has been a day doing
Water Sports and Rock Climbing. What a thrilling week they have all had and very well deserved
too!
For those parents who have been following their Year 5 children’s adventures in Osmington Bay, I
am sure that you have not been disappointed with the wonderful photos and Twitter feed that
has been going on throughout the week. The children have all had the most fantastic week in
Osmington Bay and will come home with many stories, more independence and a very dirty case
of washing! Thank you to Miss Golds, Mr Jackson, Mrs Clarke, Miss Clarke and Miss Ayisi for giving
up their own free time to allow our Breaside children to experience this opportunity. Your children
will return much more independent individuals and will have conquered many things that will
have taken them out of their comfort zone, and you will notice how much they have grown up in
just a week! They will all be returning around 7pm this evening and the Breaside Staff will contact
parents if there is any change to this, so keep your phones on please. I have had such positive
comments from mums and dads telling me it felt as if they were there with the children. A big
thank you again to the Breaside team.
Next week, the school office will be open for shorter hours than normal (9.00am – 3.00pm) on
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but will be closed for the Bank Holiday Monday.
I would like to wish you all a happy and restful break during the half term holiday and let’s all
hope that this beautiful weather continues for at least another week! I very much look forward to
seeing you all again on Monday 3rd June for a hectic final half term, starting with Incredible Eggs
arriving on Monday and The Breaside Art Exhibition on Thursday 6th June.
Happy Half Term everyone!
Mrs Nicholson

their lesson is taking place in (as outlined above) and take their instrument home on the same day.
Please make sure instruments and music are clearly named as we have so many instruments coming
and going every day!
If you know in advance that your child is going to be away on the day of his/her instrumental lesson, please give as much notice as possible. When we receive plenty of notice, we have more chance of being able to reschedule the lesson that a pupil is going to miss. BYMT Young Singer of the Year Congratulations to Charlie Pryce in Year 6 who got to the final of ‘BYMT Young Singer of the Year’. Although Charlie wasn’t the overall winner of the competition, he did extremely well to be selected to be one of the final 6 (there were 25 competitors in the first round). He performed brilliantly on the night and received excellent feedback from the adjudicator. On Monday 20th May, Year 6 were treated to a highly enjoyable all-day performance workshop. We
looked at a play called Cinderella Rocks; the story of a girl called Ella who enters a talent competition
hosted by a famous music artist in the hope of becoming the world’s next big hit in the music business.
We started the day by doing a few fun warm-ups, and although we enjoyed all the warm-ups we did
throughout the day, the one our class seemed to favour was “Park Bench”. In the game, a player had to
walk up to the “bench” with a reason to sit down – and a reason to get off when there was no longer
enough room. We had some interesting roles, including birdwatchers, cookie sellers, rappers and even
Theresa May! This activity got us used to the idea of improvisation. Our warm-up was followed by
singing Hard to Make It Big in the Music Biz, a song from the play. Whilst we sang, we tried to use
actions to imply which sort of music artist we were. After this, we learnt the dance moves to Born to
Rock, a fast song that got all of us moving to the beat. Our next activity was a few more warm-ups and
then some acting. We were split into small groups of 5-7 people and given a scene to work on,
however, we weren’t given any lines, and had to make up our own! It was a first for us to write our
own lines and it was entertaining to watch our classmates’ interpretations of the characters and the
scenes. Some of the acting was very funny, especially scenes involving the ugly sisters! Overall it was
an incredibly fun and memorable day!

Summer Fair 2019 We are really looking forward to this year’s summer fair on Saturday 6th July - 12-3pm. The theme this year is the Wild West and we are busy working on lots of fun activities for the day! It takes over 120 volunteers to run the fair and so if you think you can help out on the day even for an hour or so, please contact your class rep. Every little helps, and it takes a big team to ensure this event is a great success and the annual highlight for our children. We will also be producing a Programme for the fair which will be distributed to attendees on the day. If you have a business or know of any local businesses who might be interested in advertising in our Fair Programme, please contact FOB for more details - [email protected] Lastly as is traditional, we will be holding a raffle at the end of the fair and would be grateful for any prize donations. Thank you very much again for your support and we hope you have a wonderful half term! Friends of Breaside
