NEWSLETTER

SPRING EDITIONSept - Nov 2015

Page 2: BREC Club Spring newsletter

Dear BREC Club Members,

President Peter Elderfield and wife Jill are at present enjoying a holiday in the United Kingdom.

The past two months have been exceptionally busy with the Eisteddfod and a variety of different shows being brought through the Entertainment Centre. Our Volunteer Coordinator Pat Smart has been challenged in being able to staff all shows fully.

At this time of the year many of our volunteers take the opportunity to travel north into the sunshine or to Europe in the northern summer. This leaves an usually healthy number of volunteers available on our books somewhat depleted. It is a testament to Pat’s skills, and to those volunteers who make themselves available on a very regular basis, that all shows have been staffed. I cannot emphasise strongly enough that you check your roster sheets and return your availability to Pat ASAP.

The evacuation evening, cancelled in July, is now in the diary for Tuesday 13 October. We urge you to make yourselves available for that, especially if you did not attend the one in January.

Subtle changes are being made in the operation and delivery of our service on a regular basis and we usually rely on our FOH and Bar Managers to inform us of any changes. Information is passed on at the Bar and FOH Managers meetings held specifically for this purpose. I urge all Managers to make themselves available for these meetings where you can have your say and be cognisant of the needs of the BREC.

VICE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Spring is a time for sunshine, flowers, warmer weather - and fantastic entertainment of course! The next few months are jam-packed with a variety of shows from music and dramatic theatre to comedy and cabaret.

One of the highlights of our Spring calendar is Ali McGregor’s Alchemy, which will be held in The Cube theatre on Friday 16 October. Ali McGregor, the Opera Australia soprano who ran away with the circus, has gone on to become one of our most successful cabaret exports. Fresh from sell-out tours of arts festival’s around the world, an ARIA nomination and a starring role in Club Swizzle at the Opera House, comes her award-winning solo show Alchemy. Expect to hear unique mash-ups and genre defying versions of Madonna, Salt ‘n’ Pepa and Kiss, like they were sung by a 1940s siren in Vegas.
