    with a happy, safe envi-

    ronment to swim to your

    full potential. Thank you

    to all committee mem-

    bers and volunteers who

give up their time for theclub. There is a vacancy

    on the committee for an

    Adult Member; this is a

    supporting role and a

    gentle introduction into

    the running of the club.

    Please contact me by

email: [email protected] if you couldfill that role or on 01358

    We are delighted that

    Kevin Paterson is Head

    Coach at BODASC. To-

    gether with the commit-

    tee Kevin is working on

    appointing Lead Coaches

    for each squad from JT4

    upwards to Elite. This

    will give coaches owner-

    ship of their squad and

    coaches will look to

    Kevin for guidance and

    support.

At the end of May, after a

    talk about Open Water

    Swimming from Brian

    Bain, some swimmers

    attended Open Water

    Training at Knockburn

Loch and the next day we

    had swimmers compete

    in their first Triathlon at

    Stonehaven.

The club is encouragingeveryone to visit our web-

site, here you will find up

    news and dates for your

    diary. The website is up-

    dated immediately, if for

    it out at

    www.bodasc.co.ukBODASC was founded in

    1980 and we celebrate

    our 30th Anniversary this

    year. The committee is

    working on providing per-

    sonalised caps to cele-

    brate this and also to

    provide different medals

    at Club Championships

    to mark this anniversary.

    If you have any contacts

    within companies that

    you feel the club could

    approach for sponsor-

    ship please let us know.

    There will be reports in

    this newsletter from

    many key members of

    our club, coaches, com-

    mittee and swimmers.

    Without them our club

    would not run as

    smoothly or our swim-

    mers be as successful.

We have a great club andare lucky to be based at

    our home pool in Bridge

    of Don.

    Have a lovely summer

    everyone and we look

    forward to seeing you all

    after the break, ready to

    tackle the new season

    with some new meets

    being attended. Our

    meet calendar will be

    2/10

I was asked to take onthe roll as Head Coach

    after the AGM in March,

    and after a long, long

think I decided to take on

    the roll.

This is my first piece as

    Head Coach for the

    newsletter.

    I have been a teacher &

    coach since 2004, but

got involved with the clubback in late 2002.

    Over the last 3/3.5 years

the club has not had a

    head coach. However I

do feel that I have been

    doing the same job, but

    just in background.

I think the club has really

progressed in this time,as can be seen with the

    number of swimmers

    gaining great PBs, DRP

    times and the amount of

    top end swimmers.

    I hope to continue this

    great work with the help

    of the coaches, commit-

tee and of course all the

    swimmers.Hopefully more progress

will be seen in the year

    ahead.

There will be a number ofchanges ahead as all

    squads are going to have

a lead coach, who will be

    responsible for their own

    squad and its planning.

    These names will appear

    on the web page before

    the restart after the sum-

    mer holidays.

    We are also looking at

changing to a new time-table after the holidays

    due to squad move-

    ments, and space in the

    pool.

    If you have any concerns

    regarding anything

    please speak to your

    squad coach first.

    Finally, to all swimmers,

    coaches, committee

    members and parents,

    happy holidays, enjoy the

    summertime? See you all

    back fighting fit and rar-

    ing to go.

    Coaches report: JT5

    JT5 will be very sadly

    missed (very tempted to

hang on to you but you

    were just too good). As

    for those of you who

    have worked hard and

just need a bit more of

    our time, we are really

    looking forward to seeing

    you after the summerbreak.

    Keep up the swimming

    everyone whether it is in

a pool, the sea or your

    bath!

Enjoy the long lies on a

    Saturday and come back

    ready to work hard. Well

    done to everyone in JT4!

    Happy summer holidays,

    Lorraine &Danixxx

    Well, what can we say

    those JT4 swimmers who

    have shown up to most

    or all of their sessions

    have done incredibly

well. We are so proud of

    you for coming along,

    having fun, listening, im-

    proving and trying so so

    hard! You have all been

    fun to work with and

    those who are moving to

    most loyal supporter?

    We thought that you may

    have other fun photos of

    friends, family & pets

    who are involved with the

    club. If you do, please

send them in to the editor

    who will be delighted to

    publish them.

    Coaches report: JT4

    Well done to both our

    JT5 classes this term for

    their continued hard

    work.

    We've seen some swim-

    mers putting in excellent

    attendance and making

    great improvements.

Let's aim to keep this up!

    This term I've been par-

    ticularly impressed with

    our starts and our

    streamlining off the wall,

    both of which are looking

    great.

    Remember to keep doing

    this at all times though!

JT5 is hard work, and I'd

    encourage everyone to

    keep working at it.

    You've been a pleasure

to teach this term, and I

    hope everyone has a

    great summer!

    Thanks

This is my last report asa teacher and a coach. I

    would just like to say

    thanks for all your sup-

port over the past year, I

    have really enjoyed

    working with you all and

    you have all improved

    and come on so much.

I have been with BOD for

    14 years from learning

    to swim myself through

    squads and training be-

fore leaving to further myown swimming career. I

    then came back to teach

    and coach with the club

    and I have learned so

    much during this time.

    BOD have been such an

    amazing team to train

and work with and I wish

    you guys every success

    in the future.

    JC1 have been a great

    group of swimmers to

teach and I know that attimes I have pushed you

    hard, but you have re-

    sponded so well. Hope

    you all keep up your

    swimming.

    With love

    Debbie

    Coaches Report : JC1

    We would like also to

    congratulate all those

    who have been moved

    up to JC3. well done!

    Thanks to all our pool-

    side helpers too, you are

a great help. Also to the

    coaches that have cov-

    ered for Kevin on his

    away days. Its been a

    great first six months, so

    keep up the good work

    and continue to work

    hard.

    Hope you have a Great

    summer, enjoy your 5

weeks off and we will see

    you all in August.

    Kevin & Diane

    Its been another great

    term working with JC2 for

    me. Everyone has come

on so much, and Ive no-ticed a lot more effort

    being put in to training

    sessions, which is show-

ing in the results of com-

    petitions.

    Keep up the great work

guys, and try not to eat

    too many ice-creams

    over summer, I want to

see you all fit and well for

when you get back in thepool!

    Thanks everyone,

    Emma

    Coaches Report : JC2

    Summer is here already.

JC2 has been a really bigsquad this year. Everyone

    has really worked hard,

with lots of work on tech-

    nique and distance, and

    the results have been

    some great improvements

    in both.

    During competitions JC2

    swimmers have done

    really well with medals

and PB's.You have been a great

    credit to your squad and

    club. This shows that all

    the hard work pays off.

    Keep up the good work.

    5/10

Thanks once again to theJC3s for another term of

    hard work, both from re-

    turning and new squad

    members. I feel like

we've had a lot going on

    this term, with some

    highlights being the De-

    velopment meet, Ythan,

    Peterhead, April Showers

    and our own recent time

    trials.

    Well done to our new

    squad members who

    have quickly adapted to

    training with the JC3s,

    including the increased

    distances. I'd also like to

    say well done for various

    technique improvements

    made recently, with our

    breaststroke and butter-

    fly kick improving consid-

    erably!

    We have a good attitude

in this squad, and a lot of

    enthusiasm. However,

    let's make sure we're

    paying attention to coach

    instructions and to our

    training sets for the

    whole session! So let's

cut down a bit on the

    splashing, and on the

    writing of people's names

    on each other's backs

    (we know who you are,

it's fine)... I can also con-

firm that after a lengthyconsultation period, kick

    boards will be banned as

    weapons with immediate

    effect!

This aside, I'd like to say

    congratulations to all our

    squad swimmers, and I

    hope all are looking for-

ward to a well deservedsummer break.

    Come back ready to work

    again!

    Peace.

    Michael

    your success so that next

    year youll all be swim-

    ming further and faster.

    Some of you are getting

    close to North District

    Age Group Championship

    times, and even Open

    Championship times so

    there are plenty of chal-

    lenges for you still to

    meet.

    Weve tried a couple of

    new ventures this year.

For the first time I can

    remember we had a dis-

    tance time trial, we had

    our one hour swim, and

we have also had a go at

open water swimming .Its been great to see the

    enthusiasm and good

    humour with which you

Its been a really busy 6

    months. There have

    been many meets and

    the Elite squad represen-

    tation is increasing at all

    levels, from mini meets

    through to the Westhill

    Invitational. There have

    been masses of PBs and

    medals and every meet

    has had memorable per-

    formances from Elite

    squad swimmers. The

    season finished on a

    high with seven Elite

    swimmers at the devel-

    opment meet, all achiev-

    ing good PBs, and with

some bronze times andmedals as well. Well

    done to you all.

    Were hoping to build on

    have tackled the open

    water swimming and a

    special well done to the

    six swimmers who took

    part in the East District

    Open Water swim at Lo-

    chore Meadows. I know

    some of you intend to

    enter more open water

    meets over the summer

    so good luck in that.

Its been a long and tiring

    season so make sure you

    get plenty of rest over

    the holidays, try out

    some new activities and

    come back refreshed

    and raring to go.

    swimmers who took part

    into the Postal Swim op-

    erated by the British

    Long Distance Swimming

    Associationand all have

    just received their

    badges.

    Well done Emma

    Stevie Brands swam fur-

    ther than everyone with a

    massive 3775 metres

    and was presented with a

    new BODASC trophy by

    Bruce Deans.

    Hannah Coldwells and

    Gemma Morgan were the

    next best female swim-

    mers with 3705 metres.

    Michael Miller led for the

    boys with 3745 metres,

    with Iain Macdonald

    on 3495 metres and

    Campbell Tough on

    3200 metres.

    It was a great event

    and we look forward

to making it an an-nual feature of the

    BOD calendar.

    Emma Mitchell has en-

joyed a wonderful yearof swimming success

    including taking part in

    the Disabled Swimmers

    Events National Junior

    Swimming Champion-

    ships held in Sheffield

    in March. In this picture

    Emma is proudly show-

    ing her Bronze medal

    which she won for the

    50m breaststroke.Emma has also been

    selected to take part in

    the UK School games in

    Sept. for the 100m

    Breaststroke. This is a

    fantastic achievement

    and really shows what

    potential Emma has for

    the future. Since the

    first UK School Games,

    British Swimming has po-

sitioned the event veryhighly and for disability

    swimming it sits just below

    the World Class pro-

    gramme. Athletes take

part in a multi sport com-

    petition that provides

    them with an invaluable

    educational and inspira-

    tional experience.

Emma will be representingScotland North & West at thegames and we all wish hermuch success. Go Emma!On Friday 5th of March I hadto leave home at 6am to getto Stirling to catch the busfirst to Edinburgh then Glas-gow to pick up the rest of theScottish squad. After Glas-gow, we had a 257 mile jour-ney down to Sheffield. Whenwe arrived at the hotel mynerves were getting the bet-ter of me. I was terrified be-cause I didnt know hardlyanyone who was in the teamexcept my roommate, Hopefrom Highland. On Saturday,I was very nervous aboutwhat to do and how every-

thing worked. But it all gotbetter as the day went onas everyone was kind andfriendly. At lunch time, Igot lost in the giant mazewhich was Pond Forge(the pool). The best part ofthat day was when I camefirst in my race for 50mbreaststroke. I felt on topof the world! On Sunday itwas much clearer, but Iwas shattered by the timewe finally went back to thehotel. We packed to gohome just after tea. Onthe bus Paul (the swim co-ordinator) gave out all themedals. I got a bronze formy breaststroke. I firstthought I was going to getgold but medals were forfirst, second and thirdoverall in your disabilityclass. We once again hadto stop at Edinburgh andGlasgow then Stirling onthe way home, where mylift was waiting. We finallygot home about 10ish toBridge of Don, I wassooooo tired!!

    out the open water ex-

    North District Open Wa-

    ter Convenor, in the pur-

    pose built training loch

    just outside Banchory,

    The scenery was beauti-

ful but the water was a

cool 10 C which left our

    swimmers gasping for

    breath. Spectators wore

fleeces and jackets - itwas breezy.

    After a few minutes the

    screams had subsided

    and the group swam up

    the loch and around the

    island, negotiatied the

    long weed and the

    numerous tadpoles and

    some even managed a

    smile for the final sprints

got me going! I was also

worried in case I went the

    wrong way round the

    sure you didnt get into
