A ABSTINENCE FROM SEX B BEHAVIORAL CHANGE TOWARDS SEX C CONDOM

ABC’S SOLE FOCUS IS ON SEXUAL TRANMISSION A FOCUS THAT FAILS TO ADDRESS OTHER MODES OF HIV TRANSMISSION THAT ARE NON SEXUAL YET EQUALLY IMPORTANT ON PREVENTION BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE TESTING CARE AND TREATMENT/ EMPOWERMENT OF CHILDREN YOUTH WOMEN MEN FAMILIES COMMUNITES AND NATIONS

ABC SUGGESTS

• OVERCOME INACCURATE CONNECTION INFERRED BY ABC APPROACH – IMMORALITY AND HIV WHICH CREATES STIGMA

• ABC APPRAOCH IMPLIES THAT HIV POSITIVE HAVE FAILED AT ABSTINENCE AND BEING FAITH FUL

• PEOPLE SHOULD ABSTAIN AND CODOMS ARE LAST RESORT

SAVE WORKSHOPS ACROSS INDIA-Bringing about Attitudinal change amongst the religious leaders of the country.

SAVE Workshop, AssamParmath Niketan Ashram,Rishikesh

Jamia Milia University, New Delhi SAVE Workshop , Mumbai

Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, Head of Dept. of Islamic Studies Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies, Jamia Milia Islamia University

Prof. Wasey was of the opinion that not only is SAVE very informative but very precise and clear. The close resemblance of the Indian situation to the African scenario could be very essential in India’s learning curve. He emphasized on the need to take SAVE to other Muslim institutions in India. He plans to expand this programme to Aligarh Muslim University And The Darul Uloom Deoband

A very touching and startling statement was made by Prof. Wasey “ zindo ka ilaj hota hai , murdo ka toh post mortem hota hai”(The Living who are sick are the ones who should be cared for, post mortem of life is done on the dead, not the living)

Sadhvi Nandiniji, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh

Sadhvi Nandinji attended SAVE workshop at July 2011 in Mumbai. She was inspired with SAVE that she actually organized SAVE workshop at Parmarth Ashram in March 2012

“I was so impressed with SAVE that I thought the SAVE workshop need to be conducted in Parmarth Ashram as well.”

Maksood Al-Hasan, Imam, New Delhi

Prior to attending the SAVE Workshop, he believed that HIV would happen only to “Poor People” and once inflicted they should be totally boycotted.

He has till date attended at least 4 sessions on SAVE and his views has changed drastically post this workshops. He believes that religion is there to give solace to people in distress. Since HIV is only a disease it should be given the same love and compassion as other diseases

“Main har jhumme par HIV par sermon deta hoon aur logo ka response achcha hai”(Every Friday I give a sermon on HIV and peoples’ response to it is good)

Fr. Isaac Gandam Balaswamy, Catholic Priest

He considers the SAVE module a lot more holistic and exhaustive module as compared to ABC.

SAVE provides a much needed humanistic approach in a time when all other modules have adopted a very medical approach

“Everything cannot be considered from a moral point of view, SSSDDIM is more if we view everything from a moral stand”

Babita Das, Art of Living“I was completely ignorant on HIV now I am

more aware. After SAVE I am a lot aware and would want to share the experience

with others.”

“SAVE was a learning experience I want to share.”
