What is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is the energy harnessed from the sun.

Types of Solar Energy:

Solar Energy

Photovoltaic (sunlight to electricity)

Thermal (harnesses sun’s heat energy)

Why use Solar Energy?

Clean Energy - No pollution

Renewable Energy

Cheaper than Grid power

Earn on surplus electricity generated by your system by Net-Metering

Useful for places where there are frequent power cuts or no-grid utility

Applications of Solar Energy

Rooftop Solar systems

Solar Street Lights

Solar Water Heating Systems

Solar Power Plants

Solar Products - Lanterns, Fans, Torches

Rooftop Solar Systems

Components:

Solar PV PanelCharge ControllerBatteryInverter

The surplus electricity generated by PV panel is fed to the grid. Users get paid for the extra electricity by Net-metering system.

Types of Rooftop Solar Systems

Grid Tied

•No Batteries required•Low initial cost of investment•Faster ROI•Reduction in Electricity Bill•Incentives from Net Metering (earn on the excess energy generated)

Grid Tied Solar Systems do not use any kind of backup (batteries). So if there is a power cut (no electricity from grid), solar system will also not work.

Off Grid

•Initial investment is more than grid tied systems•Requires batteries for backup•System will work independent of the grid•Generally, used at places with no grid energy.•No Net Metering incentives as the system is not connected to the grid.

Hybrid

•Initial cost of investment is higher due to battery bank•Faster ROI•Reduction in Electricity Bill•Backup power during power cuts•Net Metering incentives (earn on the excess energy generated)

Solar Water Heating Systems

These systems use solar heat energy to heat the water using a solar thermal collectors (Flat Plate Collector or Evacuated Tube Collector).
