If you live on the water and can help, Volunteers are needed to grow baby oysters!

If you’ve always wanted to become an oyster farmer, here’s your chance. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is

looking for volunteers to grow baby oysters in floating “oyster gardens” attached to piers, docks and marina

slips, according to a CBF news release. The nonprofit is hoping this volunteer effort will help restore the

Chesapeake Bay’s oyster population, which has drastically declined over the past several decades.

CBF is holding a workshop for volunteers on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norfolk Academy at 1585 Wesleyan Drive,

Norfolk. Volunteers will get 1,000 native seed oysters and be shown how to maintain their oyster garden throughout the coming year,

the release said. Participants are asked to give a $30 donation to cover the cost of oyster seed and other materials. To register, log onto

www.cbf.org/virginiaoysters, send an email to [email protected] or call 622-1964.
