“…your old will dream dreams and your young will see vi-sions.” (From the book of Joel)

That’s an ancient Latin saying [Ecclesia semper reformanda] that means “The Church is always in need of reform.” At least I suppose it is ancient. Who speaks Latin any-more? At the very least, it seems to be a true statement. At every age and stage of its life, the Church has had challenges and opportunities to be an instrument for God’s working in the world.

We have begun a strategic planning process that will help lead us into the future. Dr. Ray Branton, who has led scores of churches in such a process, has agreed to help us. We will be taking a look at the past, to discern patterns and trends in our congregation. We will look at the present: who belongs to Broadmoor now, where do our visitors come from, how are we involved in making a differ-ence in the community? And we will also be alert to the dreams and visions that God is placing before us as we look

toward the future.

Members of this task force are: Phillip Templeton, Jane

Hubbard, Debo-rah Griffith, Mike Belanger, Jim Griffith, Hank Anderson, Maegan Daigle, Lau-ra Vaughn, Christina Poole, David Simon, Lindy Broderick, Ray Branton, and me.

How can you be involved? Sunday School classes will be asked to respond

to some questions that will give us some important feedback. Also, if you have ideas about the future of BUMC, please contact any member of the committee.

Whatever comes out of this, we will embrace the continual reform that every vital church undergoes. To become stagnant is to die. To adapt, change, grow is to live.

See you Sunday,

The Gospel reading for this Sunday is John 21:1-19. It is the story of how several of the disciples were out fishing and having problems catching anything. Then, a person says to the men to cast the net to the other side. They catch more than enough fish and Peter realizes that the person is Jesus and swims out to meet him. On the beach, when everyone is gathered to eat, Christ asks Peter three times if he loves him. Three times, Peter replies yes and eventually Christ replies “Follow me.”

One of my favorite hymns is John Bell’s “The Summons” (TFWS 2130). In five stanzas, four stanzas ask thirteen questions and the final stanza is our reply. Are we willing to follow

our Savior into the unknown? Are we willing to be transformed? Are we willing to die to ourselves and care for others? Are we willing to minister to the marginalized in society? Are we willing to be true to ourselves instead of being shameful of being the people God has intended us to be?

The Christian faith is one long journey. There are times of joy and comfort along with difficulty and sadness. However, we have hope that Christ, who calls us by name and

knows us better than we know ourselves, will lead us. Christ’s love and footsteps will guide us and we will live, move, and grow in Christ and Christ will live, move, and grow in us.

Congregational Care Ministry seeks volunteers

The congregational care ministry at BUMC is currently in need of lay volunteers to help with hospital visitation to mem-bers from our congregation. Volunteers are placed on a rotation schedule and are asked to serve once a month.

Additionally, we are in need of more volunteers to be a part of the Providing Another Love (P.A.L.) ministry to those within our congregation who are either home-bound, in assisted living facilities or in nursing homes. Being a P.A.L. requires volunteers to visit once a month, send a card and make a phone call to your assigned 'pal'. For more information or to volunteer please

Spiritual Creative Arts

Spiritual Creative Arts is a time to co-create with God. Whether you sew, paint, journal, sketch, or write please join us for a time of praise and deep listening.

This group meets both Monday and Tuesday each week from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Room 314 and is led by Amy Love.

Prayer Shawl Ministry to host meeting

On April 13, from 9-10 in the Parlor, Phyllis Phillips will teach how to make prayer shawls. We invite you to be a part of this group, which meets monthly and helps to support the Interces-sory Prayer Group at Broadmoor.

Those attending the informational meeting will need to bring three skeins, Lion Brand Homespun yarn and needles size 10 long. After each prayer shawl is made, the Intercessory Prayer Group prays over it and it is taken to those who are in the hospital or who are ill and are home-bound.

River Sermon Series Explores Ego

Rev. Kathy Wafer is leading this three-week sermon series in The

River Contemporary Worship Service on Sundays through April 21 at 11 a.m. in Ander-son Hall.

Instead of living your life with an ego that is outward-driven and based on other

people's approval, demands and false statements, discover how to live with an Altar Ego - the truth of who we are in Christ. We are God's masterpiece. We are created perfectly in God's image. It is time we lived life on the altar of God’s truth which is how we are created to live. Hav-ing an Altar Ego is life lived abundantly. The series will feature the following scripture focuses and topics, messages which we can apply to our everyday lives: April 14: Liv-ing the Life, Philippians 4:1-9, April 21: Being Bold, Joshua 1:1-11.

Teacher Apprecia-tion Breakfast honors

Broadmoor Sunday School teachers

An appreciation breakfast will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 9:45 a.m. for all children and youth Sunday school teachers. The BUMC Kitchen Ministry will cook a delicious meal for these dedicated workers and volunteers.

Prayer An Invitation to Christ

by Dimitri of Rostov, Russia

Come, my Light, and illumine my darkness.Come, my Life, and revive me from death.Come, my Physician, and heal my wounds.

Come, Flame of divine love, and burn up the thorns of my sins,

Kindling my heart with the flame of thy love.Come, my King, sit upon the throne of my heart and reign

there. For thou alone art my King and my Lord. Amen

New Appointment for Rev. Matt Rawle

Bishop Cynthia Harvey has announced that Rev. Matt Rawle will receive a new appointment at the end of June. He will be serving The Well in Ponchatoula, a new congregation whose founding pastor was Rev. Jack O’Dell. We will miss Matt and Christie and the gifts that they have shared with us over these years. We are excited for them that this move puts them in close proximity to both their families, and will afford them new opportunities to serve God in this new setting. We know they will be a blessing there as they have been to us.

Rev. Matt Rawle with his wife Christie and

daughters Cecilia, Annaleigh, and

Isabelle
