Stormtroopers crossing generations, perhaps some of the most identifiable ‘robots’ ever to grace the silver screen.

CELEBRITY EVEN ROBOTS HAVE ICONS

I was inspired to compose this shot by the death of Amy Winehouse, I think this threw into stark relief the problem with celebrity culture and acquiring everything you have ever wanted just too quickly and too easily.

Perhaps you are struggling to connect the image to the tragedy of Winehouse?

I’ll explain ... what happens when you just become too iconic, it’s very much the concept that R2D2 is the ultimate icon for robots and the adulation he recieves has left him disconnected from his fans - hence why he is staring past those who adore him even though this is clearly a still from a Star Wars film, perhaps this reinforces that the performance was automatic. I envisioned the shot all wrapped in inside an iPad as I felt this reinforced the way culture and technology invades our life at every juncture.
