It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Old Trafford and to this year’s Annual Conference. This is our fourth annual conference and the Scheme continues to go from strength to strength. We have our new mentoring relationship management system, MentorNet, and Amanda has been working with

our partners from CRB associates to develop the most effective matching tool where our mentors and mentees can be closer matched and can get the most out of their mentoring relationships.

Support for our mentors and mentees continues through our development days and awareness sessions. Emma has refreshed the programmes, introduced new sessions, and has also been working with Robertson Cooper and Bridge Associates to tailor specific development programmes to meet your requirements. The events calendar is already filling up and both the new and existing programmes have proved to be very popular. Our calendar of events is constantly updated and can be found on our website at www.nwmentoring.nhs.uk.

The mentor champions programme is going extremely well and will help to sustain mentoring within the region. Rhianon has trained and supported 15 champions through the programme and they are now setting up mentor development days within their Trusts with the support of the Scheme. This

will help us to further embed developmental mentoring across the region which I’m sure will have a big impact. Rhianon is also giving our mentors the chance to further their knowledge by completing a Coaching and Mentoring Programme endorsed through the Institute of Leadership and Management.

The theme for this year’s conference is Mentoring Through Change and I’m sure you’ll agree that this is something that will be important for us all in the short and longer term. Together with giving you the opportunity to develop your skills to make your relationships succeed, it is also important to consider your own resilience and well-being. Our speakers will bring these to life throughout the day.

It is wonderful that so many of you have been able to join us today and I’m really looking forward to having the chance to meet you all.

Enjoy the day, enjoy the speakers and enjoy spending time with your fellow members.

yNHS North West and the NHS North West Leadership Academy are pleased to welcome you to the 2011 NHS North West Mentoring conference.

The NHS is facing the single biggest change in its 60 year history, bringing with it a whole new range of new and complex challenges. As we are all part of the organisation, staff are having to adapt and face changes too. We know that these times are challenging in your jobs and therefore it is imperative that support is available to all that need or want it.

The North West Mentoring Scheme exists as a part of the regional solution to delivering that much needed support. It is accessible to all North West NHS employees irrespective of job band or role and works by matching the needs of the mentee with the skills and experience of the mentor. The Mentoring Scheme has continued to go from strength to strength in the past year with the number of mentors currently standing at 714 mentors and 1321 mentees.

It has also successfully delivered a number of specially designed Executive Mentoring development days which provide the much needed support to Associate Director level and above post holders and is aiming to increase this to meet the continuing demand of our leaders and their teams.

Kind regards,

Dawn Nisbet, Business ManagerNHS North West Leadership Academy
